Saturday, June 27, 2009 Bachetti, Arnold, Flach Jr, Hoard, and Stratton All Capture Feature Wins at Valley of Speed
by Rodney RescottWEST LEBANON, N.Y. -- What do you get when you mix in double feature events for Modifieds and Pro Stocks from 2 weeks ago, then sprinkle in a full card of racing this week including the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series, then top it off with the 4th Annual Bubba Tanner Classic, and a pinch of rain to cause a half hour delay? A night jam packed with wheel to wheel racing that kept you on the edge of your seat all night long! Those that came for just an average night of racing were settling in for the most racing action you can get in one night. 18 events packed the scheduled with hot racing for the night. Then, the skies felt the track was a little too dusty, so a nice half hour sun shower dampened the track, but didn’t dampen the night. Up first was the held over KeyBank and Curtis Hill Modular Homes Modified 30 Lap Feature. A caution plagued event saw the #34B of Andy Bachetti power around the top side of the super fast high banks to score the win in the first of 2 features. Donnie Ackner, Kenny Tremont Jr, J.C. Flach, and Donnie Corellis scored top 5 finishes. In the 20 lap Pro Stock event held over from 2 weeks ago, Kevin Arnold held off a late race charge by Rob Yetman and a flat left front tire for the last 5 laps to capture the exciting win! Yetman, Jon Ruthier, Jason Casey and Paul LaRochelle completed the top 5. Lynn Wesley held off Doug Olds to win the held over Pure Stock #2 event. With the track lightly watered, and run in with over 50 laps of hard racing already, it was time to start the regular program of the night. Gendron’s Truck Center presented the remaining nights action. First up on the night was the 4th Annual Bubba Tanner Pro Stock Classic presented by DMC Racing Products. On the point was the #12S of Matt Shadic and the #324 of Jason Casey. Casey took control early with a stout field in tow. The green was waiving for the frits 9 circuits until the caution flew for a slowing #6 of John Santolin. At the same time, the #7 of Rob Yetman went pitside for an apparent right front flat. At the green, the #44 of Steve Hankle charged out front and tried to pull away. Casey was not going to let him get away and either was Robbie Speed as he tucked his #24 up under Casey’s deck lid. The 3 went nose to tail on the now slick high banks trying set up the for a last lap pass. The white flag flew on the 23 lap special feature as the #324 made his move. At the checkers though, nothing was keeping the #44 of Steve Hankle from the win and the $523.00 payoff! Casey, Speed, Jay Casey and Matt Shadic completed the top 5. Cord Becker captured the Limited Pro Stock victory in both features. The Modifieds took to the high speed high banks for their 30 lap feature event. At the point was the #24S of Rich Salisbury took control, but the stacked field in his rearview mirror was eager to take that away. By lap 2, the #77F of Mark Flach Jr wanted the top spot and did so in convincing fashion. The caution flew on lap 10 for the #87X of Paul Gilardi making stiff contact with the turn 2 wall. He continued, as Flach continued to lead the field. The only thing that was keeping Flach from seeing the win was a late race caution that put the #98 of Fast Eddie Marshall right on Flach’s rear nerf bar for a green -checkered finish. But Marshall had nothing left in the tank of tricks to get by Flach as the checked flags flew. Mark Flach Jr scores his second victory of 2009, with Andy Bachetti squeezing in for 2nd over Marshall. 4th was J.C. Flach followed by Donnie Corellis to score his 2nd top 5 finish of the night. The Benjamin Moore paints 358 Super Series was also on tap for their 24 lap feature event. The #171 of Tom Faxon was in control early on but the track came back to the veteran racer Ray Hoard. Hoard drove his #94 around the high side on lap 5 and began to check out. As Hoard poured on the power as all the big guns were charging through the field to catch the #94. In the closing laps Andy Bachetti and Kenny Tremont Jr were making their bid on Hoard, but just didn’t have enough left to make a solid pass as Ray Hoard scores his first win in 2009. Bachetti, Tremont, Art Collins, and Matt Quinn complete the top 5. The Sportsman division was last to complete their 20 lap feature event as the #24 of Kevin Petrucci and the #44 of Jeff Kelly. Petrucci took control of the field until lap 9 when the #87 of Neil Stratton took the point and headed to the checkers. There was no one that had anything for the #87 of Stratton as thee checkered flags flew. Frank Harper crossed the line 2nd, followed by Brian Sandstedt, Petrucci, and Jeff Watson to round out the top 5. Kaptain Kirk Stanaway captured Pure Stock #1, Bob Palmer scored the win in PS#2, while Ray Hall Jr won Pure Stock #3 to end the action on the legendary high banks. With the fireworks on the track finally complete it’s time to put the fireworks in the sky as Berkshire Bank presents the Most Unbelievable Fireworks 4th of July Celebration Imaginable! $3,000 to win Modified Feature event, Live Band, balloons and face painting - plus King of the Catskills Qualifier!
