WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- Fans can race against an all-star line-up of national and regional drivers next Thursday at Seneca Grand Prix Speedway in Watkins Glen.

The 2nd annual CHALLENGE THE CHAMPIONS event is presented by the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, and the proceeds from this year's event will benefit The Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers and veteran Watkins Glen International and New Hampshire Motor Speedway announcer Al Robinson.

Al is making great strides as he recovers from a stroke suffered last year, and mounting medical bills are the biggest challenge that Al is facing on his road to recovery.

ESPN racing analyst Allan Bestwick joins NASCAR drivers Jeff Green and Erik Darnell, along with many top local stars to be challenged by fans on the fast Seneca Grand Prix race course. The first green flag will fly at 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 9th. More drivers are expected to confirm their participation as the date draws closer. Last year, Mike Wallace and his entire Johnnie Davis Nationwide team ( along with the team owner) stopped in and had a great time.

Please See The attached PDF flyer.

Seneca Grand Prix Speedway, purchased in 2011 by former NHL star Jason Bonsignore, is located two miles south of Gate 2, the main entrance to Watkins Glen International. The facility includes two go-karts tracks, miniature golf, and a variety of family fun entertainment.

For additional information about the event please contact Betty Sherwood, Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, 607-687-2991 or bjspald@msn.com.

The Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers was founded in 1989, following the near-fatal crash of NASCAR Modified driver Rod Spalding at Rougemont (N.C.) Speedway. Since its inception, the Spalding Foundation has financially assisted more than one hundred drivers, officials, and crew members injured in racing related incidents. More information about the organization can be found at www.SpaldingFoundation.org.
