Buffalino Tops Modified Field Saturday at New Egypt

NEW EGYPT, N.J. -- Dominick Buffalino of Morganville, NJ won his first feature of the year at New Egypt Speedway Saturday night as he captured the 30 lap main event on Fathers Day Weekend. Buffalino inherited the lead on lap 15 when leader Mike Iles was victimized by a left rear flat and raced to his seventh career victory at the central Jersey speed plant.

'The last month things were so bad I thought I was about ready to quit' stated a relieved Buffalino in victory lane, 'But my team never gave up on me and it all worked out. This is a great feeling.'

Tommy Farrell and Mike Iles brought the 26 car field to the start with Iles grabbing the lead on the outside, however Farrell lost the handle on the inside in turn two to quickly bring out the caution. This started a trend of problems and miscues as 3 more incidents would cause the initial start to be repeated 4 more times. The fifth time proved to be the charm as Iles powered to the lead again over Dave Witte, Buffalino and Ron John Koczon. The caution flag became a regular visitor in this event keeping things bunched up every few laps with Iles showing every time that he was the fastest car on the speedway as he would race away from the field at will. Behind Iles Buffalino and Koczon battled hard for the runner-up spot with Buffalino wrestling it away on lap 12 as Tad Cox, point leader Ryan Godown, and early crash victim Billy Pauch chased the trio. As the race reached the halfway point Iles suddenly slowed in turn two with a left rear flat tire, thus relinquishing the lead to Buffalino. Buffalino was fast over the final half of the race, however Koczon never allowed him to get farther than 3 car lengths out in front as he kept the pressure on him right to the checkered flag settling for a hard fought second place finish. Tad Cox drove flawlessly to nail down third recording his third top five finish of the year. Ryan Godown continues to lead in the points with a solid fourth place run and Danny Bouc bounced back from an early race tangle to finish fifth. Early leader Mike Iles charged thru the field with a new tire on to finish an impressive sixth.

Matt McAnally of Warminster, PA earned his first career Crate Sportsman victory in the 20 lap main event in just his first season of NES competition. McAnally was the class of the field as he led the entire event, many times by a wide margin, recording the victory in just his 6th start at the track. The only driver able to stay with the winner was former Asphalt Modified hot shoe Chuck Steuer who raced from his ninth starting spot to second and then kept pace with McAnally over the final 8 laps to be the runnerup. Third went to Joe Dill, while Eric Palmer settled for fourth and Bryan Kuhl came home fifth.

In the Tri-State Race Saver 305 Sprint Series Joe Lord of Hamilton, NJ captured his first win at New Egypt as he held off Jonathan Swanson by five car lengths. Pole sitter Mike Haggenbottom, who won two weeks ago, lead the first half of the event before he slammed into the spun car of Stephanie Palmai in turn four. Both drivers were uninjured. Bobby Devault was fast once again as he chased Lord and Swanson across the line for third. 19th starter Kyle Reinhardt and Brian Carber rounded out the top five.

Jesse Dill of Whiting, NJ once again was the class of the field in the HCI/Spike-N-Go Rookie Sportsman division as he won the 8 lap event for the seventh time this season. Dill went from last to first of the five car field on the first lap and cruised to his fifth straight victory. Dill's 7th win moves him one victory away from tying Danny Bouc's record of 8 Rookie Sportsman wins set back in 2007, with just two events remaining before they graduate into the Sportsman class. Melissa Scarpati finished second Scott Doty was third.

In the twin Fastrak Late Model 12-lap features, PJ Oliver of Cream Ridge, NJ and Rob Ormsbee of Wall, NJ once again split the events for the second straight time. Oliver won the first event defeating Tony Giglio and Cody Dawson. Ormsbee came back to win the second feature, recording his 9th win of the year, followed by Dawson and Giglio.

Next Saturday June 23 it will be Mechanics Night at New Egypt Speedway sponsored by C&M Automotive Warehouse. Modifieds will headline the evenings events, joined on the card by the Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and the HCI/SpikenGo Rookies. Racing gets underway at 6pm, with gates opening at 4pm.
