PAHRUMP, Nev. -- Heavy rains hit Pahrump Valley Speedway during the Saturday night heat action, but the urging of the race teams found the track electing to complete the show on Sunday afternoon. Levi Kiefer used his second IMCA Modified feature win in three dates to move into a tie for the track point lead with Leland Hibdon as Hibdon ran 10th. Bill Smith III from Sparks NV annually makes the long tows south to get his season off to an early start in Pahrump and he was rewarded with a second place run on Sunday ahead of Jerry Buesig Jr. Smith is just two points back of Kiefer, but will leave the local scene when the Northern Nevada tracks start racing. The point leader in two different divisions, Rick VanBuytene, won the super stock honors ahead of John Pietrorazio and Milos Petaros. VanBuytene holds a solid 16 point lead in this class, but is only 8 points in front in the mini stocks following his fifth place run on Sunday. After missing the last race, former champion Joe Rogers Jr returned to action with a win ahead of teammate Jason Skinner and third ranked Rick Gast. New racer Carl England was fourth ahead of Van Buytene. Eric Slusher won the Pro Four feature ahead of Ventura CA long tow Lance McLaughlin. Bob Clark beat Brett Iverson in the Cam Coupe main and Taylor Bonetti was the box stock outlaw kart feature winner over Shane Nunnally.

Pahrump is experiencing a dramatically increased IMCA Modified car count in 2006 despite running against nearby Mohave Valley Raceway on most race nights. When this night was extended into the Sunday afternoon action by the rain showers, IMCA in Iowa told the track that they could not let new cars join the action on the second day in order for the event to count for points. Kiefer was the feature winner ahead of Smith, Buesig Jr, Tom Bolling, former champion Todd Nunnally, Jim Bonetti, super stock and mini stock graduate Dan Snowden, J R Caha, Fred White and Hibdon. Both Josh Stringer and Battle Mountain NV long tow Heinz Woelki were feature scratches. Bonetti is fourth in points, five behind the co-leaders and just 2 ahead of Buesig. Former regional champion Jason Pike ran 11th and dropped 8 points out of the point lead. Nunnaly is 7th. Pahrump Valley Speedway is pushing the fact that they have booked three upcoming two night weekends in order to maximum the opportunities to earn the IMCA points. The first is on Easter weekend with racing on April 14-15. They also double on May 5-6 and June 2-3.

VanBuytene's super stock win found Pietrorazio second ahead of Petaros, Mike Minarchan and point runnerup Donald Gott. Petaros and Minarchan are tied for third in points, 31 behind VanBuytene. More than 20 mini stocks appeared and more will be joining in in the near future. The preliminary action narrowed the main event field down to 20 cars and Rogers Jr posted an impressive win ahead of Skinner, Gast, C England, VanBuytene, Terri Little, Tony Martain, Bill Delahunte, Bubba Ray and Andrew Oskilanee. Gast is just one point back of point runnerup Ray and 4 in front of Don Wilde, who ran 12th this night.

Eric Scenbierg was a scratch to leave just four cars for the pro four feature. E Slusher beat McLaughlin, Kevin Williams and Steve Slusher. Long time racer Clark won the Cam Coupe feature over Iversen, Sam Stringer and Mike Grey. Cole Hammack broke to leave a three kart field for the box stock outlaw karts. T Bonetti got the win ahead of S Nunnally and Austin Kiefer.
