Champion Motor Speedway (CLOSED)
Saturday, May 15, 2004 Second straight Desert Rose 100 win for Phil Perry
by Race AuthorCARSON CITY, Nev. -- With Stockton Speedway idled by the televised Richmond race, Champion Speedway staged round 2 of the four race Desert Rose 100 series for late models and veteran Rocklin CA race car builder Phil Perry pocketed his second straight $1800 win in the 100 lap feature. While opening race runnerup Mark Welch struggled to a 12th this night, his teammate and car owner Gary Glenn ran second behind winner Perry. Crowd favorite Chet Danburg was third ahead of Henry Hodges Jr and Roseville's Dan Farrington. Farrington grabbed fifth from another Roseville past champion Byron Gonzales on the final lap. With the two wins, Perry now enjoys a big 19 point lead over the tied duo of Hodges and Danburg with just the June 26 and Sept 11 races remaining. The series has a rule that each driver counts their three best finishes so drivers who missed one of the first two races can still contend.
Fifteen teams checked in, but Dean Heller was a feature scratch. Perry raced to the win ahead of Glenn, Danburg, Hodges, Farrington, Gonzales, Dave Sciarrone, Jeff Tillman, Chuck Glick, Travis Combs, opening race third place finisher Randy Hedrick, Welch, Jay Bradley and Jason Lloyd.
