DECORAH, Iowa -- If you’d have believed the meteorologists from earlier in the week, you’d have bet the chances of having races this past Saturday night were slim to none. However, they were, fortunately, wrong, and it turned out to be a beautiful night for racing as race fans filled the grandstands at Decorah’s Upper Iowa Speedway to take in another night of fantastic, door-to-door, two and three wide racing. Let’s take a look back and see how your favorites did.

Hornets – Ryan Happel started outside pole and led early in the Hornet feature, while Steve Dwyer had his #7 Honda wound-up as he quickly shot to second and set his sights on the lead. Johnny Severtson and Michael Balik had a great battle for third, which Severtson would eventually claim. The leaders would make their way in to lap traffic, which both made through clean for awhile and Dwyer appeared to be closing the gap in a hurry, but the final lap car would cost Dwyer dearly as he had to get out of the gas to avoid a collision, giving Happel the breathing room he needed to claim his first UIS feature win of the season.

Fink’s Farm and Home Hobby Stocks – Robert Anderson led early in the Hobby feature while a heated three-way battle for second was being waged just behind him, with Dan Hovden grabbing the spot and, soon after, moving to the low side for the lead. Steve Larson had his #22 on the move as well, working on Anderson for second when a caution flew for a spin in corner one by Josh Roney. Hovden showed the way following the re-start, with Larson a close second. Adam Cline then moved his #71 into the picture, getting past Larson and then bypassing Hovden on the high side for the lead. Troy Hovey caught Hovden and got passed him for second but the lead was all Cline’s who cruised to the win.

American Family Insurance/Chris Smock Agency B-Mods – Tyler Droste led early on in the B-Mod feature while Brian Schrage got past Boyd Halverson for second. Eric Verthein then moved to third, while Matt Jones moved to fourth. As Jones was peaking low on Verthein, a caution flew when Shane Panos and Greg Mitchell had separate incidents at the same time. Following the re-start, Droste was again leading with Jones and Verthein battling for second. Justin Lewis then brought out another caution when he spun in corner three. Jones moved to the high side on the re-start and shot to the lead. Droste, Verthein and Andy Kelly had a great battle for second with Droste squeezing out the runner-up spot but the win would go to Jones, his second of the season.

Letterwerks Sign City Stock Cars – Lynn Panos got past Kevin Bidne in the early running of the Stock Car feature to take the lead. Meanwhile, Jake Ludeking was on the move as well as he moved by Pete Solum for third. As Ludeking was looking to get by Bidne, a caution flew for a three-way incident in corner two involving Kurt Krauskopf, Austin Curtin and Kyle Falck on lap five. Mitch Hovden was working Ludeking for second following the re-start, but wouldn’t get the job done. Ludeking was finding a lot of bite on the bottom, and was closing in on Panos and would eventually take the lead while Hovden and Curtin were close behind the leaders. Hovden would then take second and try low, which prompted Ludeking to move to the bottom, and area race fans know that once Ludeking moves to the bottom, there’s no getting under him. Hovden tried running the high side in the final two laps but could find no grip as Ludeking went on the claim the win, his first of the year.
