Santa Claus is Coming to BriggsAuto.Com Speedway
TOPEKA, Kan. -- When you work only 1 day a year out of 365 days a year, what is a person to do? You spend the other 364 days chasing your hobby and having fun.
This Saturday night, July 14, it’s Christmas in July BriggsAuto.Com Speedway and wouldn’t you know it, Jolly Ole St. Nick is a dirt track fan!
The big guy has jumped into his hot rod at the North Pole and he is speeding towards Heartland Park Topeka. Santa’s itinerary has him arriving in Topeka just in time for the 13th race in the Super Saturday Showdown Series.
Santa won’t let anyone down this week either. He has vowed to hand out goodies to those in attendance on Saturday night! Kids coming through the gate will get some ice cream, that Mrs. Claus and the reigndeer packed just for this special trip! Great racing action is the main reason he is coming to BriggsAuto.Com Speedway this weekend.
Last week there was a large amount of money on the line in the Washburn Tech Modified feature. Sentimental favorite, Steven Bowers Jr., looked to have the race in hand until he hit lapped traffic. Darron Fuqua, the points leader, had trouble early on and had to borrow a car to race. It was good enough to win him his 3rd feature of 2012, as he picked off Bowers with a few laps remaining.
The Washburn Tech Modified class still continues to amaze the fans each and every week, look for this trend to continue Saturday night.
Ethan Isaacs has been the points leader in the White Line CDL Training B Mod division. A strong feat considering that he hadn’t won a feature all season. That is, hadn’t won a feature until last Saturday night. Isaacs jumped out to the point from the front row and held off Curtis Dreasher down the stretch for his 1st win.
With the win, Isaacs maintains his point lead and continues on his quest for the track championship.
In the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stocks Terry Schmidt dominated the competition on his way to victory number 9 on the season. It was the first time in several weeks that Schmidt did not start on the front row. It didn’t make a lot of difference, Schmidt roared from his 3rd row starting spot to the front in no time and then led all the way to the checkered flag.
As other drivers have done in the past, Schmidt is putting on an impressive and dominating performance for all that watch the races at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway in 2012. As of now he also holds a commanding lead in the points standings.
A tight points race had been shapping up in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock division, but a disqualification of Jesse Shotts gave last week’s feature winner, Randal Schiffelbein Jr., a little more cushion.
Schiffelbein has been having a great first year in racing. Saturday night he won his 4th feature on the season and he extended his lead in the points. The division is getting stronger. Several new faces finished in the top 10 and it looks like those new faces are primed for this Saturday night.
Spectator gates will open up at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and the races go green at 7:30 p.m.
Adult tickets are $10, kids 12 and under are $5 and Military with an ID are FREE!
