Twenty-one entries registered for battle, and after charging from the fourth starting spot to win the first heat race, Billy earned the second starting spot for the 35 lap finale alongside Jon Mitchell. As the feature race went green Mitchell shot to the lead with Moyer Jr. in tow. Billy would pursue Mitchell for the first two circuits before taking control on lap 3.
