Tuesday, July 31, 2012 Hagerstown Hosts Various Special Events During August

HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- Every Saturday during August has something on the schedule to provide both excitement and entertainment for both fans and competitors as after that, available race dates will be getting slim.
The opening event for August scheduled for this Saturday, August 4th, is ELVIS Family Night, the fourth themed family night this season where General Admission is only $5.00 for a night of racing plus entertainment. The Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman will be competing in their premier event, the Hoosier Daddy that has $1,000 awaiting the winner where Cody Lear is the defending winner. The Ernie D’s pure stocks that have ten different winners will also compete as will the D & D Recycling hobby stocks using time trials for their line ups. Before racing starts at 7:00 p.m., a special ELVIS musical tribute will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
August 11th will have a double program beginning with Community Safety Day at 3:00 p.m. A variety of special activities for kids and adults will be on hand including a rock wall for climbing, moon bounce, dunk tank and others while law enforcement officials will be providing worthy information about seat belt safety, finger printing for identification and various other informative subjects related to safety and other issues.
At 7:00 p.m. that evening, racing begins with Law Enforcement Appreciation Night and any enforcement officer getting in free with proper identification. On tap for the evening will be another race in the Buchanan Auto Stores Late Model Championship Series, the 20-lap Ernie D’s pure stock premier event which is the 17th Annual Cornett Tribute with Kenny Dillon the defending winner while the hobby stocks are also be in competition.
On August 18th, all four divisions will be in competition but the late models will be competing TOPLESS and for $2,500 in the 32nd Annual Ernie D’s Shorty Bowers Bull Durham Championship event where Ronnie DeHaven Jr. is the defending winner. It’s Manitowoc-Grove Crane Employee Night and includes the late model sportsman, pure stocks and hobby stocks.
Completing the month on August 25th will be Small Car Nationals Qualifier events for the late model sportsman, pure stocks, hobby stocks and four cylinder pure stocks, all vying for a guaranteed starting spot in September’s 6th Annual Nationals event on September 15th. The late model sportsman and hobby stocks events will be their final point events to determine the 2012 champion. Also included in the evening’s racing is a Non Feature Winners’ Race for the hobby stocks sponsored by A1 Towing and Auto Repair.
