CALIFORNIA, Mo. -- Race fans were on their toes Sunday night as three waves of thunder roared through the track with feature races from all three divisions.

The Street Stock racers were on top of their game Sunday night bringing race fans to the edge of their seats and keeping them there!

Starting the action was John Clancy Jr.’s first place spot in the first heat followed by Tipton’s Harlan “Boy” Dowell’s first place win in the second heat.

But it was Tipton’s Tim Cressley, otherwise known as the “Tipton Tornado,” who grabbed the checkered flag in the feature race stealing the lead from Dowell in the last few seconds of the final lap.

As track announcer Mike Staton confirmed Cressley’s win, a whirlwind of applause roared from the stands and Cressley fans were on their feet cheering for their driver.

Second place went to Dowell, followed by California's Clancy in third; Curt Turpin, Jefferson City, in fourth; and Brian Hobster, Richland, in fifth.

The top five point leaders in the Street Stocks Division are: Clancy, 720; Dowell, 692; Turpin, 523; Cressley, 513; and Brant Koetting, 444.

The Hobby Stocks feature race hit a red flag and came to a screeching halt half-way through the race when California’s Cherry Wineland flipped the number 1 car landing on it’s top at the second turn.

Thankfully, Wineland exited the car without wound! Unfortunately, the car didn’t fare as well as its driver and was removed from the track by wrecker.

Sedalia’s Jeremy Gordon held the number one spot despite being seriously challenged by Luke Skidmore of Green Ridge.

Gordon held the metal to the pedal refusing to allow Skidmore enough time to steal his thunder! When the checkered flag dropped, Gordon rolled into victory lane to claim the trophy.

Skidmore took second place followed by Miranda Arnold, Sedalia, in third; Brian Murphy, Jefferson City, in fourth; and Ralph Booth Jr., Eldon, in fifth place.

Prior to the feature race, Gordon claimed the first place spot in the first heat of the Hobby Stocks and Arnold held onto the number one spot in the second heat.

The top five point leaders in the Hobby Stocks divisions are: Skidmore, 742; Gordon, 680; Arnold, 600; Bridgett Clifford, 542; and Cherry Wineland, 473.

Jesse “The Rockett” Hockett left Double-X Sunday with his fourth number one win in a row in the 360 Winged Sprints feature race.

With 15 cars on the track for the Winged Sprints feature race, dirt was flyin’ high as were the screams of the Hockett fans!

Hockett and Evan Martin battled it out in the first portion of the 25-lap race with Curtis Evans of Norborne and Kyle Bellm driving Tyler Blank’s number 75 car.

In the end…Hockett was untouchable holding a significant lead on his fellow drivers securing the trophy!

The winged sprint heat races brought number one wins for Hockett in the first heat and Martin in the second heat.

The top five point leaders in the winged sprints division are: Evans, 674; Hockett, 542; Blank, 539; Curtis Boyer, 460; and Evan Martin, 457.

Three California kids were honored with Race Kid of the Night awards. Jessica Reynolds, age 9, said she was at the track cheering for Harlan “Boy” Dowell; Matthew Hurt, 9, was cheering for Tyler Blank; and Daisy Patterson, 9, was there to cheer on Jesse “The Rockett” Hockett.

Attendance prizes were won by Steven Clutter, Titpon; Rylee Glenn, California; Don Dorsey, Tipton; Sue Greer, California; Kevin Prall, Sedalia; Rick Malone, Green Ridge; Dana Mashburn, Barnett. California's Travis Stinson had the 'Lucky Program' and Josh McKee of Pilot Grove one the 'Race Fan of the Week' award.

The 'People's Choice Award' race has erupted with 109 votes being cast by race fans Sunday night! While the votes were not tallied at press time the results will be available at the track on Friday night.

Independence Day brings a double-dose of racing action at Double-X Speedway this weekend with a special race on Friday night including the Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) and the 600cc Sprint Cars!

Special rates will apply for Friday night gate entry.

Regular racing action will continue on Sunday night.

As usual, gates will open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 7 p.m. and racing will commence at 7:30 p.m.
