by Doug Neff
BUCKNER, Mo. -- After winning his heat and starting on the inside of row 2, Terry Phillips brings his GRT to the victory circle in the Firecracker 40 at 24 Raceway in Moberly on Sunday night.
Phllips took the lead on lap 8 of the 40 lap feature and never looked back. Mendon Illinois native, Denny Woodworth, started on the pole for the feature, after winning his heat, but was forced to retire, after only 2 laps, due to mechanical problems, to settle for 23rd place. This gave the lead to Springfield's Jeremy Payne. After a restart, Phillips took the lead from Payne and never looked back.
Phillips held off a late charge by Tony Fraise. Fraise, a Donnellson, Iowa native, piloted the Woodworth backup car to a second place finish and challenging Phillips at times in the feature. Fraise also doing double duty after a second place finish in the Modified feature. Third place going to Dave Eckrich of Cosgrove, Iowa while Mark Voight of Marine, Illinois came home in fourth.
David Turner brought his Shepard of the Hills/ Adrian Bank sponsered Rocket to a fifth place finish and holds on to the points lead on the 2008 season for the O'Reilly Midwest Latemodel Association presented by Lucas Oil Championship run.
