Sunday, June 10, 2012 Three Wide Racing, Bouncing Tires and Excitement at All American Speedway

ROSEVILLE, Calif. -- Last weekend All American Speedway hosted round eight of the NASCAR weekly championship racing series featuring NASCAR Late Models 75 laps, Mini Cups 15 laps and Bombers 50 laps. All divisions put on an exciting show for the fans leaving the fans barely hanging onto their seats with all of the action put on by the drivers. Along with the excitement from the races the fans also received driver/sponsor interaction. Mindy McCord and Pick N Pull took some time aside of their race day to give away swag and coupons to the fans. Chris Scribner and the California Capital Air Show put on two tire relay races for the moms and boyfriends of the fans to compete for Airshow tickets happening September 8th and 9th at Mather Field. First up on the night were the Mini Cups and No. 03 Bryce Napier was fast out of the box entering practice and No. 1 Andrew Vanderpool landed the top spot in qualifying with a fast time of 16.619 seconds. Followed by Bryce Napier, No. 22 Hunter Franklin, No. 27 Collin Mullen and No. 44 Jared Cronk the fast five. Vanderpool continued his fast streak taking home the trophy dash victory. An invert of four was drawn for the division placing Mullen and Franklin on the front row to lead the field to the green flag. Mullen had a good run on the start to take the lead early however Vanderpool quickly took the top spot on lap two. Before completion of lap one, Napier and Franklin collided on the backstretch. On lap three, Franklin got loose and spun in turn four and no yellow was thrown. On lap seven, Franklin got loose again in turn four and spun in the infield causing a yellow flag. Vanderpool and Napier led the field to the restart and Vanderpool jumped to an early lead and by lap 13, Vanderpool was ten car lengths over second. Andrew Vanderpool went on to capture the Mini Cup victory followed by Bryce Napier, Collin Mullen, Hunter Franklin and Cameron Legue. Next up was the Bomber Division fielding 22 cars and about five cars were super fast all throughout practice. No. 37 David Thompson topped the qualifying charts with a fast time of 15.843 seconds barely holding No. 77 Erick Ray in second by .044 seconds. Followed by No. x86 Jarred Beddow, No. 50 Richard Perez, and No. 23 Eric Bocksberger the fast five. Three heat races were scheduled and No. 7 Rick Anable, Thompson and Beddow all shared a heat race win. David Thompson took home the trophy dash victory as well. An invert of seven was drawn placing No. 9 Dan Farrington and No.3 Chris Paulson on the front row to lead the record breaking 22 car field to the green flag. Farrington got a good run on the start and took the early lead. However, 2011 Track Champion Paulson stole the lead on lap two. As Paulson gained the lead, positions second through ninth were all battling for placements on lap four. On lap seven, Bocksberger lost a right rear tire driving into the front stretch wall and sent his machine into turn one wall. Tough break for Bocksberger as he was running in the sixth position. His tire was bouncing all through the front straight away and the rest of the field did a great job in avoiding the bouncing tire. In the meantime, Thompson pulled off the track for a flat tire and a little bit of fender damage. Thompson made it safe on track under the red flag. Paulson and Perez were set to lead the restart and the two raced side by side until Perez powered out front for the lead heading into turn three. On lap eight, No.68 Dan Buzzurro also lost a right rear tire heading into turn four and slid up the track into turn four wall. Again the rest of the field preformed great cautious maneuvers as the tire bounced around in turn four. Perez and Paulson led the field to the restart once again and the two battled side by side rubbing for the next five laps. On lap 17, Erick Ray began to run down the leaders trying to close the gap between them. As the leaders approached lap traffic on lap 21, this helped Ray close in on the leaders. On lap 26, Ray went to make an inside move on Paulson in turn two and the two collided sending Paulson spinning. Perez and Ray set the pace for the restart and Perez got the early lead over Ray. On lap 29, Ray dove to the inside of Perez in turn two and the two collided drifting through turn as Ray stole the lead. By lap 32, Erick Ray had picked up over four car lengths on Perez and never looked back. Lap 34, Rick Anable a relative of Ray started to run down Ray for the lead. On lap 43, Anable started looking to make a move on Ray but Ray kept slamming the door on Anable. Anable ran out of laps to make his move and Erick Ray went on to win the Bomber victory. Followed by Rick Anable, David Thompson, Richard Perez and Dan Ferrington the final five. Last up on the nights events were the NASCAR Late Models fielding 15 cars. No. 84 Mindy McCord making her return after missing the last race to head back to Montana for her High School graduation was fast out of the box in all the practice sessions. No. 5 Chris Scribner posted fastest lap in qualifying with a fast time of 13.857 seconds barely edging out 2011 track champion Matt Scott in second by .003 seconds. Followed by No. 16 Jamie Krizysik, No. 13 Michael Roman and Mindy McCord the fast five. Jamie Krizysik held Matt Scott off for the Trophy Dash victory. An invert of seven was picked for the division putting No. 44 Ron Chunn and No. 14 Travis Milburn on the front row to lead the field to the 75 lap main. Chunn and Milburn raced side by side into turn one and two until both McCord and Krizysik spun on the backstretch causing a complete restart as the field never completed the first lap. Both drivers drove off fine and got back into their original starting positions to do this one more time. This time Milburn took the early lead as Scribner, Krizysik and Scott made an incredible three wide pass for fifth as the three experienced drivers drove three wide around the entire track for three laps with Scribner taking fifth. Now driving three wide for that long of period on such a tight track is hard to do at All American Speedway but these experienced drivers showed the officials and fans of the track it could be done and be done clean. On lap five, No. 3 Bobby Butler and Krizysik collided on the front stretch which sent Butler climbing on Scott's hood sending Butler airborne in turn one. An immediate red flag was thrown and surprisingly Butler's car was able to keep on driving after that hard airborne landing up the banks in turn one. The restart was incomplete as the track turn three and four lights went out leaving darkness. AAS officials quickly investigated the problem and were able to get the lights back on in a timely manner and racing was under way. Milburn and Chunn restarted the field and Milburn again takes the early lead sending Chunn to battle with hard charging Scribner as the two raced side by side for second. On lap nine, Krizysik and Roman collided in turn two sending Krizysik spinning collecting the majority of the field behind him as no one had any room to make it around the No. 16 car. No. 71 socal driver Kyle McGrady suffered the worst of the wreck ending his night early as well as No. 21 Dennis Loe. Other drivers who suffered damages were No. 98 Glenn Cook and Mindy McCord. After AAS safety crew quickly cleared up the wreckage on track racing was under way. Milburn and Scribner were set to pace the field for the restart and Scribner took the early lead. Milburn was left to battle with Scott for second as the two would race side by side for a few laps swapping positions at the stripe. Another caution was thrown on lap 13, as Mindy McCord spun in turn three. Scribner and Scott restarted the field to the green flag and Scribner jumped out for the lead as Scott trailed behind him. In the meantime Milburn and Chunn were battling side by side for third. Beginning on lap 18, Scribner and Scott raced side by side for the lead swapping lead positions until Scott took control of the lead on lap 24 during a restart. As Scribner was hung on the outside on the restart, Milburn followed Scott through for second. For the next 44 laps Scott and Milburn battled hard for the top spot racing side by side as Scribner would quietly follow closely behind them. On lap 69, Milburn confirmed the lead as he powered ahead of Scott and the top three drivers were nose to tail to the end of the 75th lap. Travis Milburn went on to win his second Late Model victory at All American Speedway followed by Matt Scott, Chris Scribner, Ron Chunn and No.21x Bobby Runyan Jr the final five. With round eight in the books the night went smoothly and all the drivers enforced proper sound requirements. NASCAR championship racing at AAS will return this weekend for Father's day with FREE PARKING and round number nine featuring Street Stocks, Bombers, Legends, the Airport Auto Broker Late Models and Vintage Super Modifieds.
