Saturday, August 21, 2010 Vintage Modifieds Invade Springport
by Michelle SpragueSPRINGPORT, Mich. -- The Vintage Racing Organization of America made another stop at the Springport Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 21st. Thirteen vintage mods timed in, with Bob Martin breaking into the sixteen-second range, qualifying at 16.968. Martin had his work cut out for him, with Samantha Jansen slicing her way up through the field, getting around the lead duo of Martin and Terry Byrne, to lead at the halfway mark. Martin got around Byrne for second but couldn’t reel in Jansen for the win. At the stripe, it was Jansen taking the popular win. Byrne and Lou Caposey won their heats.
J.T. Leach made it a clean sweep for the evening in the Oliver’s Collision Pony Stock division. Leach won the heat, as well as the 15-lap feature, over Scott Casaday and Mariah Caswell.
The Venom Stock Car Series saw point leader, Mike Ammerman, put another Venom Purple victory in the win column over Dane Long, Steve Oberst, Tim Rugg and Paul Thurmond. Rugg won the Venom Purple Fast Car Dash. Jordan Harvey was a repeat winner as well for the Venom Red series, taking another win over Cody Eglon, Rich Kinch, Al Williams and Jerry Schroll. Harvey took the Venom Red Fast Car Dash win and Kinch took the Red heat win.
