OVID, Mich. -- While Mother Nature paid a visit early in the day, patience and persistence was key, as the Fast Track Promotions, Inc. staff prepared for a thrilling night of racing at the historic Owosso Speedway.

First up would be the Affordable Tire and Service Center Pro Late Models for a 30-lap main event. Reigning Rookie of the Year John Forsythe III would lead the field down to Chief Starter Jeremy Slayden’s green flag. Forsythe would lead in the early going, before being overtaken by Jason Felver. Felver would pace the field out in front for the bear’s share of the race. A late red flag after Dave Bigos made contact with a light post in the infield, after which Bigos was okay, the race would resume with Forsythe looking resurgent. The New Lothrop, Michigan pilot would get the lead back on lap 29, and go on to claim his second feature win of the 2012 campaign. Felver was second, with Defending Track Champion Leo Smith, Ryan Etchison and Two-time Track Champion Mark Welch completing the top five. Jimmy O. Smith and Felver would take heat race wins with Leo Smith setting fast time with a 16.228.

Next up would be the Turbo Blue Michigan Legends Series running a 25-lap event, featuring former Owosso Winner Tony Monge on the pole. Monge would lead for a pair of laps before handing the top spot over to Matt Todd. Todd would also hold the point for just a couple laps, before Grant Quinlin took over. The young man from Canada would pace the field for the majority of the race, but a late restart would see him fade, as Matt Todd retook the lead. Todd would hang on to claim the win, his first of the season at Owosso. Quinlin was second with John Turnbull Jr., Sean MacPherson and Tony Monge completing the top five. Heat race wins went to Turnbull and MacPherson, with Turnbull lowering his own track record with a 17.523.

The Sport Stocks would be up next, running 20 laps. Chris Taylor set the pace at the start, but it would be Jeremy Donnert leading next time around. Donnert and points leader Aaron Taylor would then engage in a back and forth battle all over the 3/8s (.375) mile oval, trading the lead several times, before finally reaching the checkered flag with Donnert getting the win for the second time this season. Aaron Taylor was second with Dutch Taylor, Chris Taylor and Kendall Morrison rounding out the top five. Aaron Taylor took the heat race win and fast time with a 19.395.

The final feature of the evening would be the 20-lap Shiawassee Shores Pure Stocks feature, with Jordan Lechota setting the pace down to the flag. He would lead the opening hand full of laps before being overtaken by current points leader Bob Elliott. Elliott would make it an easy night for himself, running out in front, out of harms way, as he went on to claim his eighth feature win of the 2012 season. Steven Pelky was second with Lechota, 2010 Track Champion Bob Robinson and Pat Standley rounding out the top five. Heat race wins were claimed by Pelky and Lechota with Standley setting fast time with a 18.926, just .004 shy of the track record!

This Saturday will be a must-see event, as it will be Autograph Night at the Speedway. A perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with the cars and stars of the Big “O,” as they will line up on the front stretch. On the card will be the Liskey’s Auto and Truck Service Modifieds, Chet’s Auto Service / Economy Print and Graphics Sportsmen, Shiawassee Shores Pure Stocks and Sport Stocks. Gates open at noon, qualifying is at 5pm and racing begins at 7pm. For more information, visit us online at www.owossospeedway.com.
