CRANDON, Wis. -- The largest purses is the history of short course off-road racing – in excess of $100,000 -- will greet Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing competitors at the season opening May 19-20 Owatonna Off-Road Nationals at Steele County Fairgrounds in Owatonna, MN.

“We are pleased to be offering a record total purse for our inaugural season opener at Steele County Fairgrounds,” said Doug Davis, president and general manager, WSORR. “Purse amounts for all racers across the board have at least doubled from a year ago,” he said.

Selected tracks on WSORR’s Tour 2007, such as Crandon International Off-Road Raceway will be posting purses in excess of $175,000 for the weekend with special “Heavy Metal” Challenge races.

With seven off-road race dates on WSORR’s Tour 2007 schedule, the Series is posting in excess of $800,000 in available prize money, also a record.

Davis thanked the Forest County Potawatomi – a thriving Native American tribe in Wisconsin with a long-term interest and investment in professional off-road racing, for supporting the 2007 purse. “We have two of the most solid, stable long-term partners in title sponsor Lucas Oil and our presenting sponsor the Forest County Potawatomi Community,” said Davis. “Their generous support has allowed us to earmark record amounts for racer purses,” he said.

Davis said WSORR has also generated record contingency for the 2007 WSORR season. “Add to that our record contingency purse of nearly $1.5 million and we are really cooking,” said Davis. Total weekend race purses for the fan favorite PRO divisions include: $27,000 for PRO 4x4, $22,000 for PRO 2WD and $14,000 for PRO Light Pickup.

WSORR is the country’s largest short course off-round racing organization in the U.S. Key Series sponsors include Lucas Oil Products, Forest County Potawatomi, BorgWarner Corporation, Toyo Tires, KC HiLites, Skyjacker, American Racing Wheels, Sunoco and United Trailers. More information about the country’s foremost off-road racing organization is available online at WSORR.com.
