Friday, August 3, 2012 Andy Jankowiak, Austyn Fugle and Tom Lalomia Jr Has the Know How on NAPA Night at WCIS
by Steven PettyPERRY, N.Y. -- Tonawanda, NY resident and second generation driver Andy Jankowiak, Livonia, NY star Austyn Fugle and Getzville, NY pilot Tom Lalomia Jr “had the know how” on Friday Night at Wyoming County International Speedway as they all picked up the feature wins for the SST Modifieds, Super Stocks and 4 Cylinders respectively. For Jankowiak, it was his first of the season while Fugle and Lalomia picked up their third victories of the 2012 racing campaign.
Dan Hoag and heat winner Jim Love led the field of SST Modifieds to the green flag for their 30 lap feature go and Love took off into the early lead. Jankowiak started 5th on the field and by lap five was up into the race lead. The race was slowed a total of four times and the second restart saw Jankowiak and multi time feature winner Jimmy Zacharias up on the front row. Zacharias tried everything that he could but the Wilson Motorsports entry settled for second as Jankowiak would go on to win his first of the season at the Bullring and first in Perry since last year’s Fall Shootout 100. Zacharias had a strong point night and came home second and Don King Jr would complete the top three.
Heat winner Mike Chenaille and Alan Bookmiller led the field of Super Stocks to the green flag for their feature event and it was Chenaille leading the opening circuits. Chenaille continued to show the field around the Bullring until Austyn Fugle went underneath and passed the Wiscoy Farms, NAPA Auto Parts number 20 for the race lead on lap number six. Fugle would pull away and hold off Daniel Majchrzak and Chenaille to pick up the checkered flag, his third of the season. “I would like to thank Mike Madsen for the amazing horsepower we have underneath this car” said Fugle in victory lane.
Kevin Grom jumped out to the early lead in the 20 lap Four Cylinder feature and led until lap number three as Tom Lalomia Jr took over the number one spot and pulled away from the field. Tom Lalomia Jr grabbed the lead early and pulled away to his third win of the season. Teammate Kurt Sherwood was on the move and raced hard with WCIS regular Eric Hastreiter for much of the event and Sherwood would hold off Hastreiter for second when the checkered flag fell.
The team of Dakota Packman and Kevin Grom defeated the cousins Daniel Majchrzak and Joey Horvatits by the score of 2-0 for the trophy in the Junkyard Soccer Crash and Smash event. The noteworthy event from Junkyard Soccer was Horvatits while fighting for a loose ball decided to drive on the ball and almost went all the way over while driving on the ball.
