Strong 2nd to Cap Australia Tour

by Reid VanEck, Craig Dollansky Racing

After tasting victory at Premier Speedway on Saturday, Craig Dollansky and the D&B Goodyer Developments #7 team put the wraps on their six-race 2012 'Down Under' tour the following night as they returned to the facility for the 'Knoxville Nationals' of Australia, the 40th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

The night got underway with the first round of heats that lined up according to points accrued from Saturday's program. Tallying the second most points, Dollansky started on the pole of heat #2 and finished 2nd behind Trevor Green. The second round of heats provided fans with thrills similar to qualifying heats at the Knoxville Nationals as complete inversions forced the fast guys to race their way through the field. Starting from the tail of heat #10 'The Crowd Pleaser' muscled his way through the competition to finish 3rd.

Points were again accumulated after the heats with Dollansky topping the charts and earning the right to start on the pole of the $40,000-to-win main event. When the green flag dropped on the prestigious 40-lap feature Ian Loudoun got the early jump to take the lead. When action resumed after two cautions and a red the track started to rubber up around lap 11 with the leader moving to the bottom. Dollansky continued to close the gap between himself and Loudoun as the laps winded down and even got his nose underneath the leader at one point but would finish in the runner-up position.

"I got a nose under him towards the end of the race but I'd rather run second than both of us not finish," explained the Elk River, Minnesota native. "I kept waiting for him to make a mistake or use up his tires but it never happened. I thought the early cautions would allow us to capitalize on them but we just couldn't make it happen but we're happy to run strong in front of some of the greatest and most passionate fans you'll meet."

With another year of racing 'Down Under' in the books, Craig, wife Julie, and crew chief DJ Lindsey will return to the United States and frigid Minnesota as the Big Game Treestands #7 team continues to prepare for the World of Outlaws season that launches into action next month in Florida.
