Friday, August 8, 2003 Balzano and Boggs slpit double header in American Heritage at Brushcreek
by Race AuthorPEEBLES, Ohio -- Jackie Boggs of Grayson Kentucky claimed the 'Night Before The Heritage', that was sponsored by Larry Shaw O.K. Auto Parts and Larry McFarland Towing. Fans saw the Kentucky driver taking home the $3,000 top prize in the 30-lap feature that started 24 cars. Boggs started on the outside pole position alongside fast qualifier Chuck Harper who had set fast time earlier at 14.347 seconds.
Mike Wilson, Mark Morrison, Scott Edmiston, Brandon Green, Bill Williams, R.J. Conley and Greg Oliver followed in the next four rows for the first 10 starting positions. It was Jackie Boggs immediately taking the lead as Wilson followed with Harper and Morrison in tow. Boggs and Wilson both were recorded pacing the track at over 100 mph each. Boggs was fast and determined as he had lapped traffic down by lap 7 and blistered the track surface keeping Wilson at bay to contend with Harper.
By halfway it was still Boggs leading the pack with Wilson, Montgomery and Harper for the top four positions. Boggs held firm to the surface through several caution periods and was putting the power into the track with his 4B / McDonalds car as laps ticked away and Boggs claimed the checker flag victory once again. Wilson, Harper, Morrison and Green claimed the top five finishing spots at the end.
Andrew Truitt started the Limited Late Model feature event with his lead in the top spot but was soon unseated by John Melvin on lap #8 as Melvin went on to stake his claim at the finish line over Dennis May, Roy Cooper, Kevin Blair and Evan Terry in the 14 car field, 15-lap feature event.
The Chevette feature event saw Todd Bee lead every lap of the main event and claimed his win over Chad Taylor and Jason Collins in the 20-car starting field.

Balzano Claims Victory in 3rd Annual American Heritage 101
PEEBLES, Ohio -- Mike Balzano of Parkersburg West Virginia laid claim to the finish of the 101 lap American Heritage race, sponsored by Bicycle Playing Cards and Coca-Cola, at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex after 5 different lead changes and restarting from the tail of the field.
Balzano drove his #E1 Rocket Chassis with sponsorship from Smoker Friendly, Eddies Auto Parts, AFCO, Hoosier Tires and Turbo Blue Racing Fuels across the finish line and claimed the top prize of a 100th Anniversary Heritage Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Race fan Steve DeAtley won the Harley Davidson Sporster in the grandstands and drove his bike home just five miles from the track after picking Balzano in the special ticket drawing for fans. Balzano set fast time earlier in time trials and won an additional $250 from Jesus Motorsports Outreach as Brandon Green won $500 for his Dash win, from the same organization. The main event started with Rod Conley sitting in the pole position and Jackie Boggs alongside. Balzano, Green, Chuck Harper, Ryan Markham, Scott James, Delmas Conley, Mike Benedum and Mark Morrison made up the next four starting rows of the 24-car field.
Rain was in the area all day and evening but owner/promoter Tom Partin was determined to get this show completed and the main event rolled out onto the wicked, fast track surface at approximately 10 pm as fans were on the edge of their seats, awaiting another exciting late model show. Boggs immediately took over the lead with Balzano and Rod Conley in tow. The first caution flag flew when Marty Huntley spun out of control on lap 5.
Boggs continued his lead with a close running Balzano, Conley, Brandon Green and Chuck Harper following in the top five. Scott James moved into the top five by lap 15 after displacing Delmas Conley to the 6th hole but Delmas Conley stayed glued to the back of James and moved around back into the top five by lap 26 as Boggs and Balzano dogged one another for the top spot.
Balzano made a move for the number one spot around Boggs and into some lapped traffic on lap 28 as Boggs took second. Rod Conley, Harper and Delmas Conley held the top five. By lap 31 only 16 cars remained and the caution flew for the 8M car of Dennis May as it spun on the frontstretch and collected Scott James. The 9B car of Nick Berry spun also collecting Balzano. Balzano was fine with just a flat tire and went pitside to make a quick change. Balzano restarted from the tail with Boggs again in the lead over Rod Conley, Delmas Conley, Chuck Harper and Mike Wilson. Lap 42 saw another caution period and on the restart fans saw the Boggs car smash back into the rear of Harper's car as Harper smashed into the back of Troy Blue after Blue suddenly stopped on the frontstretch. Boggs was out of the action for the night, losing his chance for a repeat of the Harley win.
This allowed Rod Conley to take over the top position with Delmas Conley, Balzano, Mike Benedum and Mike Wilson in tow. Balzano was soon in second place behind Rod Conley and made a pass to claim the top position by lap 54 as Rod Conley and Mike Benedum followed.
Lap 58 saw a whole change of running order as Mike Benedum got into Rod Conley on the frontstretch, Conley hit the frontstretch wall and spun out of control, coming to a rest just past the flagstand. Mike Wilson never saw the yellow flag/lights in time as he slammed on his breaks, spun around and hit the front end of Rod Conley's car hard. A red flag situation was called as paramedics checked out Wilson and determined he was okay, just breathless from the impact. Rod Conley and Mike Wilson were done for the night and both towed pitside.
Balzano continued his lead once again over Delmas Conley and Chuck Harper for the top three spots as laps ticked away. Only 7 cars remained by lap 71 as Mike Balzano and Delmas Conley raced each other around the track for the next 40 laps. Balzano claimed his checker flag victory as Delmas Conley, Chuck Harper, Kevin Schnoover and Weasel Rhoades took the top five finishing position.
