Nevins, Marsch march to double wins during 'Greg Grace Memorial' at the Coliseum

SEDALIA, Mo. (March 16, 2002) - A special event to remember the late Greg Grace and rally behind his family, along with the fact that the program was the next to last Coliseum Indoor Winter Speedway Kart Racing Series to be run this season, created a near 'full-house' of drivers and fans on the Missouri State Fairgrounds Saturday night.

Two different drivers from two different states were able to charge their way to feature wins in two different racing divisions for each. And for Des Moines, Iowan Bryan Nevels, Jr. it was his last time to run in the Junior 1 (ages 9 through 11) division in his racing career. The 2002 racing season under the directorship of the KART karting association, Nevels now qualifies to move up to the Junior 2 (ages 12 through 15) class this week. Nevins outran points leader Josh Fisher in both the Goody's Steakburger Junior 1 and Busso's AA Muffler Junior 2 'A' features. Fisher, who appears to be the only double championship winner this year, scored solid second places.

Russellville's Ryan Marsch was definitely flyin' all evening. He first picked up a win in the Paint-Ko Stock Medium main, then came back in the Fairfield Motors Stock Heavy to do it again. Another 'Illinois Raider', Oakwood's Kyle Hill, won both of his heats and feature event to grab a 'clean-sweep' in the Yeager's Suzuki Stock Light group.

After erroneously putting the wrong intake restrictor on his Anderson Kart Engines Rookie Beginners machine last week, costing him a feature win, Lamar's Kaden Sportsman crossed the line first again and copped the win with the right parts. Vada Schultz, who won her first ever feature last week, was a close second and Alivia Aten was third.

The big crowd of fans and competitors dug deep into their pockets, many buying raffle tickets to help Oak Grove's Graces. They also turned in cash to many drivers circulating with their helmets at intermission for the cause.

Kudos go to Harry Hoffert and Shawn Morton with the Morton Racing Team for arranging and rounding up a tremendous amount of items that were won during the draw.
