MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- Leading all but one lap, Muskogee’s Chad Wheeler drove away from the field to win the World Championship of Dirt Modified feature at Outlaw Motor Speedway Friday night.

Wheeler, from the pole, out-ran Randy Tims, Oklahoma City, to win the $1,000 first place money for the win. Tims, with a nifty move, passed Wheeler midway between turns three and four to go ahead after 15 laps.

But the lead was short-lived as Wheeler recaptured first on the backstretch on the very next lap. From there, he was never headed.

Wheeler said the track was rough but fast.

“Once I found the right groove and got out in front, I was gone,” Wheeler said.

Tims fought-off Gene Weaver, Amarillo, Texas, in the race for second after Wheeler established the fact he was going to win. Those two finished well ahead of Bixby’s Greg Skaggs, who fought his way through the pack after a flat tire sent him to the back of the field after he went to the pits to change the wheel.

In winning, Wheeler claimed his second win of the year in Modified racing.

Modified recap will be sent ASAP.

Hobby Stock

Benefiting from a suspension problem that sent early-race leader Dillon Rupe into the wall, Kevin Flock captured his third Hobby Stock feature win of the year.

Flock, Muskogee, beat Colton Dunlap to the finish line. Dunlap, also from Muskogee, was second for the sixth time this season, He has two feature wins.

Rupe, Broken Arrow, led the race from lap six and it appeared that he was on his way to his first triumph of the season. However, after a restart, on lap 12, he went high into turn three with his steering problem with Flock going ahead.

Flock was third behind Dunlap on the restart, but the Muskogee teenager had to slow when Rupe went high, opening the door for Flock.

The two leaders battled for the next seven laps, until Dunlap made a mistake coming out of turn two – getting slightly sideways. That gave Flock all the room he needed.

Pure Stock

Kyle Slader, at 14-years-old and the youngest driver to ever win a feature, became the youngest driver to win two-in-a-row with some nifty driving.

Slader, a Muskogee Middle School student, took the lead on lap three after starting fifth in the race. He trailed only once from there – surrendering first to Muskogee’s Matt Burnett – after making a slight driving error exiting turn two on lap nine.

However, he regained the lead on the next trip around the three-eighths mile oval on the very next lap when he eased ahead of Burnett at the finish line.

“Matt forced me out of my line to go ahead but I was able to get it back on the next lap,” Slader said. “When I went back in front, there was no stopping me. I just ran off and left him.”

Slader fought Burnett for the next three laps, until Burnett pulled into the infield with car problems. That opened the door for Jason Ward, Tahlequah, to finish second. Justin Sellars, Muskogee, was third.

360 Modified

Dale Richardson, surviving a green-white-green finish, captured his first feature win of the year.

The Muskogee driver finished just a few car-lengths in front of Braggs’ Patrick Goodnight, who moved into second when Brett Henson, Fort Gibson, spunout in turn three with two laps to go.

Earlier, Spiro’s Brookin Stephens left the track with a broken shock absorber. He was second at the time. Stephens was bidding for his third feature win of the season.

A rough track took its toll on the cars. Eighteen cars started the race but equipment failure – suspensions and flat tires – eliminated 12 cars from the lineup

Front Wheel Drive

Ron Palmer, Roland, continued his dominance of the Front Wheel Drive division, winning his eighth feature of the season. He took the lead on lap two when pole-setter Brandon Morris left the track with a front-end problem after a caution.

Palmer led by nearly a straight-away two-things into the 15-lap event.


JUNE 26th FIRESTORM 100 / MUD BOG RACE / MEDIA RACE - The Oil Capital Racing Series Sprints invade Outlaw Motor Speedway for the second time this season for the Firestorm 100, sponsored by The Sports Animal & Pizza Inn.

The Oklahoma heat will fire up the Sprints as they look to battle the for the points lead. Last showing, Danny Smith of Sand Springs took the win.

For the Media race, all the media in Green Country has been invited to come participate in the Media Race Challenge. Look for your favorite faces and voices to take on the Outlaw to see who is the best in the state.

Getting down and dirty, the MudBog Mayhem Race is a challenge for anyone with a 4-wheel drive. Each driver will compete in a drag race through a mud pit, competing in tournament style racing. The winner at the end of the night will be crowned the Mayhem King.


JULY 3rd MUSKOGEE COUNTY FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR - Outlaw Motor Speedway boast one of the largest fireworks displays in the state of Oklahoma,so this is one night you do not want to miss.

Last season we entertained over 3,000 people with our 30 minute fireworks spectacular.

JULY 13th (MONDAY) NASCAR NIGHT MODIFIEID RACE OF CHAMPIONS (MROC) - NASCAR drivers, Dave Blaney, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader will be on hand to battle in the first time ever Modified Race of Champions Race.

The MROC Race will mark the begining of an era as the top Modified Drivers from across the United States will converge on Outlaw Motor Speedway and battle NASCAR drivers for the first ever MROC title.

Blaney, Wallace and Schrader will be availible before the races for autographs and interviews.
