Wednesday, April 9, 2008 Mike Hill Supports the Inaugural Festival of Speed Charity Event Hosted by the San Jose Stealth Indoor Lacrosse Team
by Jack YovanovSAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Stealth indoor lacrosse team, teamed up with the Loneliest Road Campaign to host the inaugural Festival of Speed. It was an afternoon filled with fast cars, Go Kart races and family entertainment that helped generate money and awareness for pediatric cancer research and treatment in which local Formula race car driver Mike Hill was there to assist.
The event took place in San Jose, CA, on Sunday, April 6 in the HP Pavilion parking lot where the day’s activities included an exotic car show, celebrity Go-Kart races with former 49er’s Keena Turner, Bryant Young, J.J. Stokes, Jeff Ulbrich and Raiders Tom Rathman, along with local TV and radio personalities Tim Jefferies (KFOX), Roberta Gonzales (CBS 5), and Vernon Glenn (KRON 4); the Bay Area Cheerleader Go-Kart Challenge with the Saber Kittens and Stealth Spy Girls; and face painting and other games for the kids. The day-long events lead up to the San Jose Stealth home game against the Portland Lumberjax that evening.
To introduce the local celebrities to the driving characteristics of the Go-Karts, Formula Star Mazda driver Mike Hill provided informative track walks of the temporary kart track in which he pointed out braking, turning and cornering techniques. For some of these celebrity drivers, these newly learned techniques definitely proved to be an advantage when the races got underway.
While the cheerleaders never really got up to blazing speeds on the track they definitely put on a good show of charm, grace, and attractive driving styles. The celebrity racers and their teams also put on a dazzling show of speed, style, and provided fans with new ways of how Go-Kart racing can be a contact sport.
“There are far too many children dying from Neuroblastoma each year and the leaders of the Loneliest Road Campaign have taught us that we can all make an impact in saving the lives of these young kids,” Stealth President Johnny Mouradian said. “We wanted to host the Festival of Speed to not only generate some funding but create awareness for this very worthy cause.”
It was an afternoon of fun at HP Pavilion for the entire Bay Area to enjoy while supporting the fight against pediatric cancer and Mike Hill was proud to have been a part of this very worthwhile cause to benefit the research and treatments for these children.
