GBR Karting

CHILLIWACK, BC -- GBR Karting, the exclusive North American importer of the Lewis Hamilton kart, prevailed in a hard fought battle to take the highly competitive Rotax Junior Max Championship at the final round of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas this weekend in Fontana, CA. Scalzo and the GBR Karting team clinched the championship by five points following a gruelling 25 lap final. The battle literally came down to the final corner of the final lap as Scalzo needed to hold on to a second place finish in order to secure the necessary points to clinch the title. The Junior Max class title earned by Scalzo adds a second seat to Team Canada from an International RMC, upping the roster before the Canadian racing season gets underway. This will mark Scalzo's first trip to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals and the fifth for a GBR Karting driver.

"You can say it came down the wire, but really this is the result of consistent podiums throughout the series. Zach (Scalzo) was there in every race," smiles a relieved Kevin Glover, GBR Karting Team Principal. "I said going into the weekend that all he needed to do was keep doing what he has been doing and it would work out and here we are. The chassis is very good on long hauls and Zach was always able to maintain pace to the end of the race, which was key to this. We can't forget the driver though. Zach did a really great job, I'm extremely proud of him."

In addition to their Junior Max success, GBR Karting driver Daniel Burkett secured the second step in the Rotax DD2 Max class, while Jeff Fulham had a tough weekend in Rotax Mini Max suffering a DNF on Saturday but recovering to a sixth place finish in Sunday, which puts him sixth overall for the series. Skylar Dunning had a solid run in his first Rotax Senior Max race as he makes his move up from the Junior ranks for 2012.

"Everyone on the team did a great job over the entire Gatorz Series," continues Glover. "Jeff (Fulham) really deserved to finish higher than he did. He drove extremely well at every race and was consistently one of the fastest karts; the luck just never went his way."

The GBR Karting Team returns to Canadian soil and their home track at the Greg Moore Raceway, in Chilliwack, BC to start preparing for the coming Western Canadian Championship, which gets underway in just six weeks time.
