ANTIOCH, Calif. -- “Run What You Brung”, races where drivers and crews get to bend the rules and have some fun, will be the main attraction this Saturday night, October 15, at Antioch Speedway.

The three-feature event program will see crews in the modified stock car, limited late model stock car and hobby stocks get creative in "souping up" their cars beyond what the rules allow in the regular season.

What if a limited late models had wings? Or, what if modifieds had big oversized tires?

Those questions will be answered when crews unveil both high-tech and low-tech technical wizardry in the pits. This past Sunday, Antioch champs Brad Myers of Brentwood, Larry Damitz of Vallejo and Troy Foulger of Martinez trekked to sister track Merced Speedway and brought some surprises with them. They each came home with a win.

Damitz showed up with a giant sprint car wing anchored to the top of his late model stock car. He glided away from the competition.

Did the wing make him fly?

“I imagine so,” Damitz said in victory lane. “There’s down force from that wing - even on a small track.”

Antioch’s Chester Kniss almost snatched victory from Foulger in the modified feature. He put gigantic tires on his modified. Foulger had shark-fin like sail panel on the left side of his car.

“The panel helped the car dig right in,” Foulger said. “Chester got me on a few restarts, though.”

Kniss had his front wheels popping off the clay because he had so much traction from the big tires.

“I had too much bite (into the track),” he said. “We’ll make some adjustments for Antioch Speedway come Saturday night.”

For Brentwood’s Brad Myers, the victory was sweet. He drove alone, as fiancé Melissa Hansen watched from the pits. She usually rides as a co-pilot with him at Antioch Speedway.

“I gave him some go-fast goodies,” she explained as she hugged him in victory lane. “We’ll keep that a secret since we have one more race at Antioch Speedway.”

Action gets underway at 7 p.m. Saturday night. Gates open at 5 p.m. Regular admission prices are in effect for this special event. Adults admission $12, children and seniors $6. Antioch Speedway is located in the Contra Costa Fairgrounds at 1201 W. 10th St. in Antioch, Calif.
