Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway
Tuesday, October 27, 2009 Gene Price Motorsports Late Model River Series to Highlight Saturday Action at The Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway
by Dave GraysonBLYTHE, Calif. -- The Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway will present the latest round of its Winter Blast Racing Series Saturday night, October 31st. The quarter mile paved oval is located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe-California. Highlighting Saturday night's action will be a special appearance by the Gene Price Motorsports Late Model River Series along with red hot racing action from the speedway's street stock and factory divisions. The speedway will be honoring the educational accomplishments and opportunities of Palo Verde College Night on this night.
The Gene Price Motorsports Late Model River Series, is a special set of eight championship points races sponsored by the Parker-Arizona based racing team and parts distributor. The events are equally divided between the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway and Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City-Arizona.
The first series' race was held October 10th at the Havasu 95 Speedway and was won by Lancaster-California driver Austin Murphy. It was an extremely close race and clearly was an indicator of how much excitement this series is going to generate throughout the remainder of its schedule.
Saturday night's race is a 50 lap feature. Murphy will be on hand looking for his second win as well as claiming his second consecutive series championship. However the young driver can expect plenty of competition from the likes of Jerry Snell, Bobby Keirns, Mike Sutterfield and former Blythe late model champion Mark Schriner.
The high flying Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway street stock division is once again expected to produce another exciting 25 lap feature Saturday night. The focal point will be who can keep D J Lonie away from victory lane? The local driver has won the last two races in a row. While Lonie is on top of the points standings going into Saturday night it's a very tight race. He's only four points in front of former track champion Richard Selph.
The always fun factory stock division will be doubling their usual presentation by running a 25 lap feature Saturday night. Connor Sprawls has won the last two races and will be the driver to beat. There's a strong possibility that the likes of drivers Kenny Foster, Roger Gilstrap and reigning division Justin White will be looking to break Sprawls' win streak.
The Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway weekend will begin on Friday night with a test and tune session for the race teams from 6 to 9 pm. This practice session is open to spectators free of charge. On Saturday race day the spectator gates will open at 5 pm with the racing getting underway at 7pm. As always there will be a driver autograph session before the race which allows the fans to come onto to the track to meet and drivers and see their cars up close.
General admission tickets for Saturday night are $10 and $8 for seniors 55 plus, the handicapped and military personnel. Teen tickets, ages 13 to 17, are $5 while kids tickets, ages 6 to 12, are $3. Children five and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The speedway also offers fans a family package for $20 which admits two adults and two kids 17 and under. Palo Verde High School students will receive a one dollar discount on their tickets with their ASB card.
For out of town race teams and fans the Best Western Flying J is the official motel of the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway. They offer beautiful and spacious rooms at affordable rates. Call 1 800 292 9711 for reservations which can also be made online.
