COAL GROVE, Ohio -- It was a big night for the fans at Rocky Top Raceway on July 24th for the “Coal Grove Pharmacy Fan Appreciation Night”. There were several giveaways courtesy of Chris Stone Racing, Dave Jamison Racing, 2Graphic Distributions, Portsmouth Raceway Park, and the Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Department. Four lucky race fans also became race VIP’s.

In the “Brayden Dillow 25” Late Model A-Main, Jackie Boggs took the lead at the start.
As the race wore on, Boggs began to extend his lead to over a straightaway on second place driver Rick Combs. The whole complexion of the race changed on lap 21 when John Melvin flipped his Jeff Fields owned machine in turn one. Thankfully, Melvin was ok.

On the restart, Combs looked to the inside of Boggs as they battled side by side for the lead! With Boggs up high and Combs down low, the two continued side by side with Combs leading lap 23. Going into turn one, the two nearly made contact with Boggs now regaining the lead. Combs stayed right on Boggs’ bumper the final two laps but didn’t have enough to make the pass as Jackie Boggs took his sixth win of the season! Combs finished second with Cody Parker third, Mark Queen fourth, and Jeff Davis fifth. Boggs and Combs won Engines Inc. heat races.

Dave Jamison and Greg Thompson led the field to the green to start the “Richard Thompson 20” Modified A-Main. Third place starter Rick Hensley immediately moved up to make it a three wide battle for the lead with Hensley taking the top spot! Hensley was able to hold off challenges from Thompson to come to the checkered flag and take the $1,000 win! Thompson finished second with Todd Robinson third, Craig Christian fourth, and Jake Keaton fifth. Dave Jamison won the dash race while Adam Jordan and Jake Keaton won Engines Inc. heat races. Mike Estep won the B-Main.

David Dunn and Wayne Hughes had a great side by side battle for the lead in the opening laps of the “Brayden Felty 15” Bomber A-Main. On lap five, the two made contact with both cars spinning! Hughes’ car was too damaged to continue and Dunn was charged with the caution and had to go to the tail. That left Eric Dennison as the race leader.

When the race resumed, Dennison and Josh Stamm had an excellent battle for the lead. After several laps of side by side racing, Stamm took the lead on lap ten as Dunn made his way from the tail to second! Stamm was able to hold off Dunn in a great race to take the $500 win in his first race at Rocky Top! Dunn finished second with Eric Dennison third, Wade Miller fourth, and the #j5 car fifth. Dunn and Dennison won Engines Inc. heat races.

Chris Stone took the lead at the start of the “Patrick Thurman 15” Mod Lite A-Main.
Stone pulled out to a big lead as all eyes were on an exciting side by side battle between Mark Noel and Harold Kuhn for second. Stone dominated the remaining laps to come to the checkers and claim his sixth win of the season! Mark Noel finished second with Harold Kuhn third, Tony Sites fourth, and J. C. Wurts fifth. Stone and Kuhn won Engines Inc. heat races.

Coming up on Friday, July 31st will be the biggest race of the season at RTR with the “3rd annual Engines Inc. 50”. On the card will be Late Models-$5,000 to win, Modifieds-$650 to win, Bombers-$350 to win, and Mod Lites-$300 to win (with 15+). General admission is $20 with kids (7-12) admission $5 and pit passes $30. Gates open at 4:00 pm with Hot Laps starting the nights racing action at 7:30 pm.
