SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -- South Boston Speedway will kickoff the Labor Day holiday weekend in style Saturday night with the running of the Gazette-Virginian NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program.

The first of four action-packed races will get cranked up at 7 p.m. All four events will have key implications in deciding who will claim the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Series division championships at America's Hometown Track.

The featured event of the night will be a 150-lap race for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. Also slated Saturday night will be action for the Limited Sportsman Division and twin races for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

With only two point races remaining in the 2012 campaign, Matt Bowling sits atop the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings. The one-time winner in 2012 is 31 points ahead of two-time winner Peyton Sellers and 32 points ahead of nine-time winner Lee Pulliam.

Sellers is a former track champion and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, and Pulliam is the current leader in the battle for this year's NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship. Pulliam owns 20 overall victories this season.

Bowling owns only one win this season, but he has been a model of consistency throughout the campaign. In his 18 starts on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval, he has finished no worse than eighth this year. Bowling owns two runner-up finishes, five third-place performances, four fourth-place finishes and one fifth-place run. He has also finished sixth three times this year and has recorded one seventh-place finish and one eighth-place finish.

There are also only two point races left in the season for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division and it appears either Bobby McCarty or Danny Willis, Jr. will claim the crown this year.

McCarty and Willis have each posted six victories in 2012. McCarty owns a narrow 16-point cushion heading into Saturday's action. Blake Stallings is third in the standings and is just five points ahead of fourth-place Mike Jones.

With three point races remaining for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division drivers this season, Trey Crews will head into Saturday's action with a 21-point advantage over Joe Allred, III. Randy Hupp is third in the championship chase and is 24 points behind Allred.

Pit registration for the Gazette-Virginian NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
