WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio -- In the Mt. Orab Ford Late Models the night started out with Greg Johnson of Bedford, Indiana and Barry Doss of Sardinia, Ohio claiming heat race wins and setting the lineup for the feature. In the feature event it looked like the A Hines Racing Engines #24 of Johnson was going to roll to yet another win but just past the halfway mark the engine started smoking heavily and he slowed to a stop while trying to get off the racetrack. On the restart it was Chad Stapleton in his Rightway Construction, Bowman Dodge, Skeletor Core, Roger’s Bar, Rocket Chassis machine out front. With numerous challenges from Doss and a brush against the wall with 2 laps to go making things interesting Stapleton would cruise to his fifth feature win on the season at MRP. Doss would hold on to second spot with Chad Smith, John “Weasel” Rhoades, and Roger Ruark rounding out the top five spots.

In the Holman Motors UMP Modified division it was Goshen Ohio’s Dustin Webber and Winchester, Ohio’s Weasel Rhoades taking heat victories and setting the starting field for the 20 lap feature event. At the green it was Webber out front but the race would be slowed numerous times for incidents in the first few laps. Once the field finally got going it looked as if Webber would finally put his Coyote Racecar in victory lane but engine problems would take him out of the top spot on lap 5. On the restart Weasel was out front in his Bicycle Playing Card, Cropper Race Engine, Coyote Racecar and despite numerous challenges from Clay City, Kentucky’s Keith Smith he was able to hold the field off and claim his first victory of the season. Doug Adkins was able to get past Smith for the second position but it was a little too late as Weasel had put some distance on the rest of the pack. Adkins would come home 2nd with Smith, Jimmy Lennex Jr., and Jeremie Bretz rounding out the top five positions.

The Holman Motors Chevettes were also on the card and it was Rusty Yarger and Miles Tarvin on the front row with Yarger able to get the jump and lead at the start. Despite a lap 9 scary incident in which Mike Clark would hit the wall and roll over in Turn #2, Yarger would be able to hold off Tarvin to claim his 7th feature win of the season in his Northwest Transmission, Wilson Body Shop machine. Tarvin would finish second with Josh Francis, Boog Verdon, and Michael Bowling rounding out the top five spots. In heat race action Yarger was able to inch by Jim Hunt and Josh Francis off the final corner to claim the first heat while Tarvin was able to run away and take the win in heat #2.

In the final tuneup event before the “King of the Compacts” race on August 24th there were a couple of newcomers on hand to try out MRP before the big DRC promoted event. In preliminary action it was point leader Michael Skeens taking the win in heat #1 while Willie Butler would claim his first victory in heat race #2. In the feature event it was Skeens out front for the first couple of laps before Rex Smith Jr of Bainbridge OH would take over the top spot on lap #3. A great battle between Smith and North Vernon, Indiana’s Lucas Jackson ensued with Jackson finally taking the lead on lap #6. By lap #8 Butler was in close pursuit of Jackson but could not make the pass and the youngster would claim his second victory in the Crazy Compact division of the season. Butler would come home second with Skeens, Rodney Foltz, and Trevor Landrum rounding out the top spots.
