Saturday, October 20, 2007 Stutts, Brinkley Take Late Model Wins at Duck River Speedway

WHEEL, Tenn. -- Results for Saturday, October 20, 2007 from Duck River Speedway.
Crate Late Models: Pole sitter Randy Gifford lined up with Howie Harrison on the front row to start the Crate Late Model feature. Harrison took the lead at the start and for the first half of the race had a fierce battle with Gifford. As the leaders started to weave through lap traffic, third place Robert Stutts made a bold move and passed both cars on lap 11. Once out in front, Stutts motored his very well known #302 on to win the event.

Super Late Models: Pole sitter Jay Brinkley chose the outside position for the start, but the first two attempts resulted in spin outs and had to be restarted. The third restart was single file and this put Brinkley behind Shannon Davis. Davis lead the first couple of circuits but Brinkley muscled by on the backstretch to take the lead for good. The field was filled with outstanding drivers such as, Tommy Lawwell, Tyler Landers, Daniel Miller, Tony Morris, Jerry Owens, and Robert Stutts to name a few.

Super Stocks: Heat winners Tim Demonbreum and Jason Savage started up front for the Super Stock feature. Demonbreum’s Camaro led from green to checkers to win for the second week in a row! Jason Todd started 4th and by lap 4, moved to third place behind Savage. On lap 13, Todd got by Savage for a second place finish.

Open Wheel Modifieds: Shannon Davis’ Open Wheel Modified dominated the heat race and he led the first 7 laps of the feature, but on the next lap he left the track with engine problems. On the restart, Alan Holmes’ Ford powered machine took over the point followed by Daniel Miller’s Chevy. Miller used the high line of the track, sometimes making contact with the wall in turn 4, to take the lead on lap 12. Miller went on to take Barry Smartt’s “C4” open wheel to victory lane.

Pure Ponies: Heat winners Jackie Hentz and Joshua Nichols were on the front row for the Pure Pony feature. Hentz’s little Pinto got the lead at the start and lead Nichols for the first 3 laps. A caution came out for John Perry, last week’s winner, and on the restart Hentz was followed by Nichols, John Johnson, Scott West, and Lee Farless. By lap 8, West had gotten around Johnson for third. On lap 10, Josh Carlton took over the 5th position. West's Pony would fade in the closing laps, allowing Paul Teachout to enter the top 5. With pressure from Nichols , Hentz drove his heart out and took the 15 lap feature win.

Outlaw Ponies: Chris Pinkston and David Bledsoe won their heat races and started the Outlaw Pony feature on the front row. Pinkston got the lead on the fourth attempt to start the race and lead Bledsoe, Keith Layne, Paul White and Jeff Wooten for the first four circuits. On lap 5, Wooten and Bud Mullins got by White. On lap 11, Layne driving the only GM racer took over second from Bledsoe. On lap 12, Wooten, Mullins, and Clyde Petty moved in behind Layne. Pinkston lead the entire 15 laps to take the win.

Rookie Ponies: The Rookie pony feature started with heat winners, Kenny Groves and B. J. Jennings, at the front of an 11 car field. Jennings lead the first lap and Groves’ car road the front stretch wall for more than half a straightaway, but continued racing. Following Jennings for the first 4 laps were Dwayne McCrary, Groves, J.D. Hubbard, and Nathaniel Terrell. Hubbard had problems and went into the pits on lap 5. On the restart Groves got around McCrary for second, Terrell moved to 4th and Ricky Young was 5th. On lap 7, Groves took over 1st and lead the rest of the rookies to the checkered flag.
