INDIANAPOLIS -- USAC is returning to the Peach State (Georgia) in 2010 as the Metro Atlanta Quarter Midget Association has joined the USAC family of .25 Midget clubs.

Thanks to the early commitment of donors David Bowen of Bowen Family Homes and Terry Mathis of Mathis Grading, the Lanier National Speedway quarter-midget track was constructed on Lanier Raceway property, located near Braselton. Ground was broken in November of 2006 and racing commenced there in 2007. Nearly 40 races have been held there the past three seasons,

USAC has a storied history of racing in the Atlanta area,” says James Spink, USAC’s Developmental Racing Series Director. “Lakewood Speedway on the south side of Atlanta hosted USAC Championship races in 1956, 1957 and 1958 and in the ensuing years our club has raced at tracks like the Peach Bowl in Atlanta in 1960, Atlanta International Raceway, Road Atlanta, Dixie Speedway and Lanier Raceway. We are obviously delighted to welcome the Metro Atlanta contingent into our family of .25 Midget Clubs.”

Various USAC events have occurred at Lanier in the past, including Midgets and Sprint cars between 1989 and 1994 and Formula 2000 races were held across the highway at Road Atlanta between 1992 and 2000.

“We experienced tremendous growth with our new .25 Midget operations in 2009,” added USAC President/CEO Kevin Miller, “and look forward to this new relationship with Metro Atlanta as we continue to build the product of quarter-midget racing as the foundation of our vast repertoire of racing experiences.”
