Cape Motorsports Returns to Test at GMP

JEFFERSON, Galif. -- Gresham Motorsports Park fans would have thought they were at the wrong track this week had they showed up at the half-mile oval.

Since Monday, Star Mazda and USF2000 cars and teams have dominated GMP for seat time before competing at Lucas Oil Raceway in May.

Andretti Autosport was the first this week to test at GMP. With drivers like Zach Veach, Shelby Blackstock and Sage Karam, the asphalt at GMP never had a chance to cool down.

Cape Motorsports made their return to GMP on Thursday and made laps the entire day. Cape Motorsports drivers, Trent Hindman and Matt Brabham, made laps for the first time on an oval track.

Matt Brabham joined Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing in 2012, to compete as a rookie in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda. After two events Matthew has a win, 3 second place finishes, 4 fastest laps, two track records and two pole positions.

Trent Hindman has been behind the wheel of a race car since the age of eight and has had much success. For the 2012 season, Trent is looking forward to running the USF2000 Championship with Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.

"The track is really different than anything that we are use to, but it is a great track and it is a lot of fun," said driver Trent Hindman.

Petri Suvanto, who tested at GMP in 2011, returned to GMP to give his advice to the two rookie drivers.

Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing was formed in 2010 as a partnership between two successful racing entities. With leadership from brothers Nicholas and Dominic Cape, and along with Wayne Taylor and his organization in Indianapolis, the team campaigns cars in the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda, and the F1600 Series.

"GMP is especially thankful to Nicholas and Dominic," said GMP General Manager, Dan Elliott. "They are responsible for getting the word out to other Star Mazda and USF2000 owners and teams. GMP is excited to have Cape Motorsports return for testing and we look forward to having them back in the future."
