Friday, April 15, 2005 1040 Tax Night at Motorplex filled with thrills, spills and plenty of winners
 by Race AuthorNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Another successful NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series “Friday Night Thunder” came to an end Friday, April 15th at the Music City Motorplex with Charles York of Brentwood, TN winning a season pass for being the 1040th fan through the gate. The Kiddie Grand Prix winners for the evening were Caleb Saiyasak in the four year old class and Faith Glover in the five year old class. In the six year old class Austin Mangrum took the win and Laura Prestage took the victory in the seven year old class.
Buttrey cartwheels to third straight Late Model victory
 Late Models in action Friday night. | Daniel Pope II of Smyrna, TN started on the pole for the NASCAR Late Models, but a huge wreck on the front straight would bring out the first caution of the night before the first lap was ever completed. Garrett Gray and Skip McCord spun on the front stretch with Brad Morgan and Josh Petrino making hard contact with McCord’s machine. All the drivers walked away un-hurt and McCord returned to the race at the restart, but Morgan, Gray and Petrino found themselves behind the wall.
Les Howell jumped out to a comanding lead at the restart with Pope, Wade Buttrey, Scooter Hillis and Andy Johnson battling side by side for three straight laps for third position. Buttrey made his move to the outside of Pope and Howell to take the lead on lap ten. First through seventh place were nose to tail when Scooter Hillis spun coming out of turn four to bring out the second caution of the night. Michael Driskell and Michael Green battled for the last five laps side by side with Green coming out on top for second place. Driskell settled for third, Johnson fourth and Pope rounding out the top five. Wade Buttrey celebrated his third striaght victory of the 2005 season by turning a cartwheel across the main stage following the race.
Allen holds on to take home trophy in Super Trucks feature
 Ronnie Campbell and Jesse Williams were caught up in this accident during the Super Trucks feature. | Ricky Bolden started on the pole for the forty lap NASCAR Super Truck Feature, but two accidents in two different areas of the track brought out the first caution of the night. Terry Hayes spun on the back stretch while David Hailey spun on the front stretch. Unfortunately both trucks retired for the evening. Bolden held the lead at the restart, but Blake Carter took the lead on the outside followed by Willie Allen. On lap ten Allen finally took the lead from Carter. Bolden held on to third but Scott Borchetta and Michael Driskell following nose to bumper. Ronnie Campbell and Jesse Williams were caught up in an accident with Campbell’s machine hitting the wall hard coming out of turn three. Willie Allen held on to the lead to take his second straight victory and Borchetta took second. Carter and Driskell battled for third and fourth with Driskell coming out in third and Carter getting fourth. Ricky Bolden finished another strong run in fifth.
Deal accepts Fusner Challenge but comes up short
 Larry Deal Jr. accepts the George Fusner Last to First Challenge. | After three weeks of trying, a driver finally accepts the George Fusner Last to First Challenge worth $700 this week. Larry Deal Jr was scheduled to start on the pole, but he decided to accept the Challenge and started in the rear of the field in hopes of capturing a win and the $700 bonus. Daniel Victory jumped out to take the early lead with Larry Ryman holding a close second. Deal worked his way up to sixth by the time the checkereds fell, but Daniel Victory held on to take the win. After post race inspections, Victory was disqualified giving the win to Larry Ryman with Troy Hall finishing second. Steve Knight finished third and Dick Steagall fourth. Deal rounded out the top five.
