Thursday, June 21, 2012 Shirley Rolls to Fayette County Summer Nationals Triumph
by Kellen BurnsBROWNSTOWN, Ill. -- Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., dominated Thursday night at Fayette County Speedway en route to his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour victory of 2012 worth $5,000.
Shirley, who is second in Summer Nationals point standings, started on pole and held off a late rally by Kyle Logue of Oreana, Ill., to earn his first tour win since 2010. Logue used the knowledge he gained running at Fayette County in a DIRTcar UMP Modified earlier in his racing career and charged from 11th to finish second. Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark., was third. Jason Feger, the 2010 Summer Nationals champion from Bloomington, Ill., finished fourth while Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio, started 15th and rallied to finish fifth.
The tour returns to action Friday night at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., where Dan Schlieper won the Summer Nationals event in 2011. The event at Tri-City Speedway is set to be heavily contested with a $10,000 winner's purse up for grabs.
