The Open Wheel division saw Todd Bates take the lead a the drop of the green and looked like he was headed for winners circle then on lap twelve he had a flat that finished him in the sixth position. At this point the lead was turned over to Steven Holcomb who had been knocking on his back door lap after lap, to take his second win of the season at Thunderhill.
