Saturday, June 16, 2012 Lewis Makes History in Earman Fulk Memorial; Kunkle and Miller Grab First Linda’s Wins

JONESTOWN -- The tenth race of the 2012 season was to honor the man that built and started Linda’s Speedway. The Earman Fulk Memorial fittingly played host to the first wingless 600 Sprint race at the track. Shane Lewis of Honeybrooke used his wingless experience to take the history making win. The 270 Sprint feature would see a first time winner as Kutztown’s Jarid Kunkle used a late race charge to win the main event. In the Slingshot feature Matt Miller finally got the monkey off his back to win his first Slingshot feature after five years of trying. In the nightcap it was Palmyra’s Troy Hostetter taking his fourth win of the season. The night’s racing was sponsored by the Jesus Race Team. After the Wingless 600 feature was over, the night’s sponsor Bruce Ginther climbed from his 28 car and said I wish we would do this every week that was awesome! His thoughts were echoed by many in the stands and pit area. After an eight lap wingless challenge race Brian Carber had earned the pole for the A-main. Carber lead until lap 13 when fourth place starter Brett Schoenly used a restart move around the outside to take the top spot. Schoenly would lead for six laps until Shane Lewis used a slide job in turns 3&4 to take the top spot. Lewis would withstand a one lap shootout thanks to a lap 24 caution flag to win the first ever wingless 600 feature at Linda’s Speedway in the $500 to win Earman Fulk Memorial. Lewis won over Linda’s Speedway champions Brett Schoenly and Brian Carber who finished second and third. The rest of the top five were Linda’s regulars Paul Maxcy and Shaun Brandel. Brett Michalski, Rob Vivona, Chad Sandt, 17th place starter Bruce Ginther, and 21st place starter Steve Whary made up the rest of the top ten. Heat races were won Brandel, Maxcy, Schoenly, and Mike Dicely. 28 Wingless 600 Sprints signed into compete in the first race. The Rts Chassis Sponsored 270 Sprints swung into action Friday night as the only class with a wing. Richie Hartman was to start on the pole of the main event and as a multi time feature winner most people had already written the race off. Instead it was Brandon Heist from the outside of row one who would lead lap one. Heist would continue to lead until lap 18 when Jarid Kunkle would take the lead away. Kunkle would drive away to a 1.5 second lead and never look back driving to his first Linda’s win. Heist finished in the runner up spot for the second week in a row. Finishing out the top five were point leader Nick Skias, last week’s winner Brayden Winters, and Richie Hartman. 13th place starter Ross Perchak, Scott Gingrich, Christi Sweigart, Austin Bishop, and Dane Tobias made up the top ten. Heat races for the 24 car field were won by Skias, Bishop, and Jesse Maurer. 12 Slingerwarehouse.com Slingshots filled the pit Friday night as they prepared to compete in the first Gambler’s race at the track. Any driver willing could pay extra entry fee and then if a driver that took the “gamble” won they also won the extra money. Bruce White and Matt Miller lead the field to the green flag for the 20 lap event. Miller would waste no time jumping out front to the race lead. The race would run through with no yellow flags allowing Miller to open up an 5 plus second lead over the field. Miller won in dominating fashion to claim his first career Linda’s Speedway win after five years of trying. The win came over Brett Bieber, 12th place starter Cody Kline, White, and Bob Snyder. Heat races were won by White and Miller. The Eash’s Towing Chargers would close out the night’s racings. The Charger’s were competing in a cone race to allow double file restarts through the whole event. The race was also title the “Flintstone 15” in honor of Earman Fulk’s driving time in the car called the “Flintstone Special.” Ed Hollenbach would wrestle the race lead away from pole setter Butch Helsel quickly at the drop of the green flag. Hollenbach would lead the race until a lap 11 caution flag. The double file restart format pitted the teammates Hollenabch and Troy Hostetter beside each other on the front row. Hostetter started 11th after losing a transmission in his heat race. Hostetter would take the top spot for good on the restart and lead the rest of the way to his fourth victory of the year. Hollenbach was able to make it a one-two finish for the team cars coming home in second. Third was Josh Michael with Butch Helsel and Chris Smith rounding out the top five. Chris Derr recovered quickly from a chain reaction wreck that cost him second spot to finish in sixth, Tyler Stump was seventh from 12th starting spot, Chris Warren, Jeremy Ott, and Denny Garman made up the rest of the top ten. Heat races for the strong 18 car Charger field were won by Hollenbach, Michael, and Smith. Drivers’ making their first Linda’s starts included Jeremy Ott who had a top ten and Brad Vital. This coming week is Camera and Autograph night. It’s a great opportunity for fans and drivers to meet and greet one another at the track. The RTS Chassis sponsored 270 & 600 Sprints will be in action along with the 125 Micro Sprints. The Xcel Chassis Modifieds and the Chargers are also on the bill. Wingless racing returns to Linda’s Speedway on August 10th. 600 Pa Speedweek will stop at Linda’s Speedway on July 6th.
