BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A summer tradition continues this Friday night, June 26th, as the 21st Annual Sheldon Kinser Memorial will take place at the Bloomington Speedway. Kinser, a Bloomington native, died of cancer in 1988. He was a three-time USAC Sprint Car Series Champion (1977, 1981, 1982). He also drove in the USAC and CART Championship Car series. He competed during the 1975-1981 seasons, with 38 combined career starts, including the Indianapolis 500 each year except 1980, when he failed to qualify. He had 11 top-10 finishes, with a best of third at Texas World Speedway in 1979. The Safety Kleen Sprint Car division will run for $3,000 to win and $300 to start. Also lap money will be up for grabs, as $50 will go to the leader of each of the 40 laps. Currently, over $2,000 has been donated, meaning a possible $5,000 payday if the winner has led every lap. Running with the Safety Kleen Sprint Cars will be the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds for $700 to win and the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks for $600 to win.

In previous action at the Bloomington Speedway on June 19th, Brady Short picked up his fourth Safety Kleen Sprint Car victory of the season. Short dominated the 25 lap event, taking the checkers ahead of Jeff Bland, Jr., Danny Holtsclaw, Jesse Cramer, and Casey Shuman. Kent Robinson scored the victory in the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event, his third of the season ahead of Josh Eads, Brad Barrow, Clint Demoss, and Richie Lex. The Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main event saw a first time winner in Paragon, IN native Steve Peeden. Peeden took the lead late in the race and took the checkers ahead of Brad Cummings, Winston Howe, Jason Thomas, and Ben Dubois.

Current Bloomington Speedway points standings in the Safety Kleen Sprint Car division sees Brady Short with a ten point advantage over Jeff Bland, Jr., Jon Sciscoe, Scott Hampton, and Ty Deckard complete the top five. In the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified division, 91 points separates the top five as Kent Robinson holds the points lead over Josh Eads, Clint Demoss, John Demoss, and Chase Sterrett. In the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock division, Clayton Perry holds a seven point advantage over Brad Cummings, and an eight point lead over Troy Clark in third. Lee Hobbs and Jack Frye round out the top five.
