INDIANAPOLIS -- "T-Time" Ben Tunny has taken to the World Figure 8 Championship like a fish to water. His rookie voyage came in 2003 when he soldiered to a 10th place result at the tender age of 16. In 9 career starts, Ben has ended his evening in the top ten on 6 occasions. He came home third in 2007 before landing the $20,000 check in 2009 after an entertaining hour long battle with Rodney Sizemore. He led 205 laps in that 2009 title run. His World Figure 8 resume also includes qualifying race victories in 2006 and 2008. He started on the front row for the Three Hour Endurance Race in 2006 and 2011. Ben is the only driver to compete in all 20 of the World Figure 8 Tour events ever held. He owns 2 WF8T feature triumphs. Ben is the grandson of Speedrome Hall of Famers Phyllis and Bill Tunny Sr.
Richard "Doodle" Dickens - Bowling Green, Kentucky

This driver will be one of the favorites to take home the prestigious Sonny Eaton Memorial Top Rookie Award in the 2012 World Figure 8 Championship as well as the $20,036 prize of winning the overall event. Doodle Dickens won the Figure 8 Championship at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008 scoring numerous main event wins. He has hit the road during the past few year as well scoring top five Figure 8 feature results at Columbus Motor Speedway, Kentucky Motor Speedway, and Anderson Speedway just to name a few. His team has also had a close association with reigning Speedrome Late Model king Doug Greig in those seasons. Dickens is one of the first regular competitors from the Beech Bend track to enter this herald event. Fans can look for his bright red #85 this September. And note that the Bowling Green Figure 8 course hosted 2 Speedrome-based General Tire Figure 8 Challenge Series races which were won by Duane Lee in 1992 and Rodney Sizemore in 1993.
The Most Unique Race in the World

The World Figure 8 Championship is the only race on the planet that a driver can win without being on the track at the start or even seeing the checkered flag. Drivers are placed in the results by total laps completed. The 32-car starting grid is assembled with the 24 drivers who locked-in through qualifying races on Friday September 7th. The remaining 8 spots are tacked-on through unlimited time trials on Saturday afternoon. Every other car will be lined-up as alternates by their qualifying time. This line of alternates will be added individually to the race as cars drop out of the event. In the past, drivers have entered as an alternate and drove their way as high as third place at the finish. All cars that leave the surface can return making this the only race that can grow in size as the laps increase. It can only be seen to be appreciated.
