by Rick SweigartNEW CASTLE, Ind. -- This Saturday night July 21 Mt Lawn Speedway presents Thunder Cars, Hornets, Rookie Hornets and Street Drags plus as added attractions UMRA Midgets, Legends and Indy FasKarts.
UMRA Midgets will be making their second of 5 appearances at Mt Lawn for the 2012 season. Eric Fehrman of Greensburg won the feature back on June 9 of this year.
Legends Cars are 5/8-scale, fiberglass models of the modified cars driven by early racing legends during the formative years of auto racing. Each New Legends Car is powered by a New Yamaha 1250cc motorcycle engine built to strict specifications at US Legend Cars, Int. headquarters and equipped with 60 series BF Goodrich radial tires. To keep expenses at a minimum, Legends drivers are not permitted to make performance-enhancing changes to a Legends car.
The Indy Faskarts are making their third appearance at Mt Lawn of 2012. On their last visit 14 FasKarts started the feature and provide some exciting racing action throughout the pack.
With seven races to go in the 2012 season point championships are still on the line. 4 drivers are within 8 points of the lead in the Hornet division with Jeff Sorrell of New Castle leading Keith Morris of New Castle by just 2 points. Randy Owen of Anderson is third just 6 points out of the lead and Andy Jennings of Richmond is 2 points behind Owen. Larry Hughes Jr. of Greensboro cannot be counted out even though he is 27 points behind Sorrell. Hughes missed last week because of the birth of a new addition to his family and fell out of the top spot in the points. In the VanHoy Oil Thunder Car division 5 drivers are battling for the championship with David Clark of Muncie leading the pack over Dustin Foust of Rushville by 9 points with Johnny Magee of Carthage and Jason Walker of Sulphur Springs just 13 off the lead and Danny Key of Rushville in fifth place 16 points out of first.
