SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. -- Racing action continues Friday with the return of the sprint cars to action on the three eighths mile Penn Can Speedway oval. The CRSA Sprints of New York will be joined in a regional challenge race with the TSRS Sprints of New Jersey. The exciting modifieds, 602 sportsman, street stocks, four cylinders, and factory stocks will also be in competition.

In a joint sanctioning agreement, Penn Can Speedway has teamed with the CRSA sprint car sanctioning body out of New York and the TSRS sprint car group out of New Jersey to present this night of sprint car racing at the track Friday.

“We are thrilled to be able to present this combined challenge event for both sprint car organizations,” explains Reed Miller of Penn Can Speedway. “Our speedway has always produced great sprint car racing and this night shouldn’t be any different.”

All cars will draw for their starting positions in their heat races. The top qualifiers will then draw for their feature starting positions. Those that fail to qualify will run the B Main for another shot a qualifying.

Kevin Hartnett of Troy is back on top of the modified point battle that has been extremely competitive thus far this season. Less than thirty points separate the top five drivers in the standings with only four points separating the top three. Kevin Bates is only four points back from Hartnett with Joey Grammes sitting in third six points behind. Brett Tonkin and Mike Schane are rounding out the top five in modified points.

In the four cylinder division, Andy Brigham of New Milford is presently undefeated at Penn Can. Speedway officials announced last Friday that a $200 bounty has been placed on Brigham for the next five weeks. The first four cylinder competitor beating Brigham on the track with Brigham still running on the lead lap will take home the money.

Gates open Friday at 5:00 with racing at 7:30. For more information about Penn Can Speedway call the track office at 570-585-9928 or on the web at www.penncan.com. The speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania just a short drive from both the Binghamton and Scranton areas. The speedway is sponsored in part for the 2012 season by great corporate partners including Don’s Automotive Mall, Gary’s U-Pull-It, Pump-N-Pantry Stores, Trackside Products, Pine Line Auto, Hornbeck Chevrolet, NEP Wireless, Adams Cable Service, American Race Tires, and VP Race Fuels.
