SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. -- The promotional team of Al Wilcox and Reed Miller has been busy putting together to put together another excite event for the small cars at the Susquehanna County oval. After last year’s highly successful Northeast Small Car Classic, the promotional team has scheduled two big events. The first will be the first Northeast Summer Nationals on Sunday July 15th. The cars and stars will be running for guaranteed starting positions in the second annual Northeast Small Car Classic to be held in September. The July qualifier will feature four divisions plus the Penn Can Speedway four cylinders looking for a guaranteed spot in the annual King of the Can in October.

Once again the Xcel 600 modifieds will return to Penn Can for their third visit of the season. Butch Getz has been on a roll at Penn Can with two victories this season. The Xcel 600 modifieds will be competing in a 25 lap feature event. Series points will be awarded.

The small car sprint divisions will also be in competition. The 600cc sprints will be running with wings for the July race. The popular 270 cc sprints will also be on the card. Last September, over twenty 270cc sprinters tested the tacky and smooth Penn Can oval. This race should attract even more competitors tuning for the big Northeast Classic. The purse for this event will be based on the number of cars entered. The minimum guaranteed purse for both divisions of sprint cars will be $500 to win the feature event.

The slingshot will also be on the Sunday card. Thirty slingers came to Penn Can last September and put on an excellent racing display with side by side racing throughout the field. The slingshots will compete in a twenty lap feature with a minimum of $400 to win the event.

Joining the small cars Sunday will be the four cylinders competing in a big twenty lap feature event with the winner getting a cool $250.

Sponsorship of the small car events will be coming from Dickie Kieper Speed Supply, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, S&S Speedway, Graphix by Billy, along with Penn Can Speedway.

For more information about racing at Penn Can Speedway call the track office at 570-585-9928 or on the web at www.penncan.com. The speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania just a short drive from both the Binghamton and Scranton areas. The speedway is sponsored in part for the 2011 season by great corporate partners including Don’s Automotive Mall, Gary’s U-Pull-It, Pump-N-Pantry Stores, Trackside Products, Pine Line Auto, Hornbeck Chevrolet, American Race Tires, and VP Race Fuels.
