Saturday, July 28, 2012 Dietz Charges from Twelfth to Win 600 Feature; Cox Claims Fourth 270 Win

HANOVER, Pa. -- Chase Dietz claimed his fourth win of the season at Trail-Way Speedway Saturday night in the 20-lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature.
“Last time we were here we had a bad accident, explained Dietz after exiting his J&K Salvage sponsored #89, “So for the first time back, its nice to be in victory lane.”
Dietz started 12th and battled his way through the field to take the win on lap 15. But Dietz not only picked up the win, but also the Hard Charger award sponsored by Donahue Motorsports.
Polesitter Tanner Hunsicker took the lead on the start and paced the field through several cautions for the first 12 laps. Travis Scott worked his way from seventh-starting spot to take the second spot from Colton Laughman on lap four.
On a lap 13 restart, 7th-starting Scott dove under Hunsicker in turn one to take away the lead. Dietz followed Scott passed Hunsicker and then made a bold move diving under Scott in turn four to lead lap 15.
Dietz, who likes to work his way through the field using the outside line, “had to work the bottom tonight.” The win boosted Dietz into the points lead. Dietz now leads Todd Hoover by 14 points.
Scott held on to finish second while Shawn Seifert made a pass on Hunsicker to cross third. Hunsicker was fourth and Bo Gordon completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were JD Harman, Brad Weber, Todd Hoover, and Brett Widener.
Heats for the 21 600cc Micro Sprints were won by Colton Laughman and Spencer Wassilewski.
“That’s the second time I took one from Joe [Long, Jr.].” explained Steven Cox in victory lane for the 270cc Micro Sprints, “When he gets out in front, he’s fast.” Cox drove from seventh-starting place to take the lead from polesitter and race long leader Joe Long, Jr. on lap 16 of the 20-lap feature.
“I thought if I got a caution, I could get him.” said Cox.
And that was exactly what happened. “I caught him at the cone and snuck underneath of him.” explained Cox. On the restart, Cox drove under Long in turn one and claimed his fourth win of the season at Trail-Way Speedway.
Long held on to cross second with Brian Marriott, Matt Campbell and Michael Ertter rounding out the top five. Sixth through tenth were Adrian Shaffer, Michael Boer, Brent Bull, Colton Young and Angela Caruso.
Cox was the points leader going into the race, and now leads Matt Campbell by 116 points.
Heat winners for the 15 270cc Micro Sprints were Joe Long, Jr. and Colton Young.
Justin Oberlin claimed his third win of the season in the 12-lap Strictly Stock feature. Oberlin started on the pole and led every lap despite heavy pressure from fifth-starting Michael Young. With two laps remaining, Young tried to make multiple passes on Oberlin on the inside and outside, but Young was unable to pull up beside Oberlin. On the final lap, Young suffered a right front flat tire and lost one position handing second to Shawn Crunkilton. The win also gave Oberlin the points lead in the Strictly Stocks.
Shawn Crunkilton claimed his first win in the 15-lap Limited Stock feature. Crunkilton started sixth and came out on top of a three-way battle for the lead on lap three. From there, Crunkilton faced challenges from Terry Hartlaub and Matt Chronister who finished second and third. Heats for the 12 Limited Stocks were won by Terry Hartlaub and Shawn Crunkilton.
Brad Kress claimed his fourth win in the 12-lap Scramble Car feature. Kress, Ricky Weaver, Jr., and Shawn Crunkilton made it a three-way battle for the lead. Weaver spun in turns 1 and 2 bringing out the only caution of the event. On the restart, Crunkilton tried to make a pass for the win, but was unable to make a pass stick. Crunkilton crossed second with Tyler Gastley third.
