Thursday, July 12, 2012 Mini-Stocks Take Center Stage July 13 at Raceway 7
 by Jay PeesCONNEAUT, Ohio -- The Specialty Products Mini Stocks will be the featured division this Friday, July 13 with a $300 to win feature. Bud Sergeff took over the point’s lead last week, enjoying a 28 point edge over defending champion Jonny Boyd. Tim Gillette is eight points behind Boyd in third. Sergeff and Boyd have four and three wins respectively so must be the favorites for the top spot this week. Carlos Aponte and Ed Huge are the only other winners this season to date although Gillette has been strong every week.
Matt Latta, still looking for his first Raceway 7 win and fresh off his first-ever touring win, leads the Evergreen Lake Park Campground FASTRAK Late Models by a slim 2-point margin over 2-time defending champion Max Blair. The Conneaut Lake, PA youngster has shown steady improvement since beginning with full sized race cars. Blair, who won the “Cross the Border” Northeast Touring event last Friday, will be ready to take the lead in his quest for his third straight Raceway 7 Championship. Kyle Zimmerman is also eyeing his turn in the spotlight as he sits in third, a mere 12 points out of second place.
Defending Zimmer Service Center E-Mod champion Russ Dunn has been on a streak of wins this season, racking up five triumphs for the season including the last two in a row. As a result he enjoys a 48-point margin on 2011 champion Joel Watson, with two wins. Shane Crotty is having a good season albeit without a win. He trails Watson by 89-points.
Tommy Fox enjoys a big lead in the Street Stock point standings and leads the pack with wins, totally three at this point just past the half-way mark of the season. Joe Rohrer, with two wins, is second, 125 points behind. Paul Schreckengost is currently third, 29 behind Rohrer.
Brandon Blackshear has won every feature event for the brand-new Economod class and thus has a huge points lead of 257 markers over Eric Paulus. The race for the runner-up spot is tight with Alan Atkinson a mere two points behind Paulus.
Weather permitting, gates open every Friday at 5:30 PM with pill draw cut off at 7 PM and racing at 7:30 PM. VIP suites are available for rental for $250 a night which includes eight general admissions passes. Admission is set for $10 for adults for regular events, kids 5-14 are $5. 4 and under free.
