Friday, August 26, 2005 Mattison captures Limited victory; Lytle survives and claims Stock 8 victory
by Race AuthorRUTHERFORDTON, N.C. -- Jamie Mattison led every lap of the Limited race and claimed the victory which was an aftermath following all the excitement that occurred Friday night August 26, 2005 at the Harris Motor Speedway. Mattison’s victory was superceded by the “Outlaw” Robert Bradley hanging suspended on the inside dirt bank in turn two during the heat race, by Paul Lytle losing a rear end in the Stock Eight race which sent him into the turn three wall and his car rolling over, and mostly by the ‘Smith - Bowers’ feud which resulted in Kenneth Bowers hitting the frontstrech wall on the final lap and flipping five times. The racing was fast and furious and the accidents spectacular Friday night at the Harris Motor Speedway. Mattison and Barbare battled the first three laps of the Limited race before Mattison grabbed the lead for good. As many as four cars ran bumper to bumper the next five laps with each vying for any opening they could find. Then as the lapped wound down it became a two car battle once again with Barbare challenging Mattison but Mattison holding him off for the victory. Michael Barbare finished second. Mike Bivins finished third. Chris Jackson finished fourth. Robbie Head finished fifth.
Chris Lytle led only one lap of the Stock Eight race which was actually only the final few feet of the race as he claimed his second victory of the season at the Harris Motor Speedway. Timmy Smith led the first half of the race with Kenneth Bowers and Chris Lytle in tow. Eventually there was incidental contact between Smith and Bowers whereas the top three cars spun and all three were placed in the rear of the field. Chris Davis gained the lead position and led until the final turn of the race when all blank broke loose. Smith, Bowers, and Lytle had moved from the rear of the field to the second, third, and fourth positions respectively. It appeared Davis was set to grab his first victory of the season when he lost control of his car in turn four. Bowers and Smith went high with Lytle squeezing in a bit lower as the three charged to the finish line. Bowers went up all the way to the wall and Smith appeared to make a beeline to stop his progress. At the last moment there was contact between Smith and Bowers which sent Bowers into the wall and he began flipping. Lytle avoided any contact and recieved the checkered flag. Smith crossed the finish line in the second position. Kenneth Bowers flipped past the finish line and finished third. Danny Edmonds finished fourth. William Tucker finished fifth. Davis came across sixth.
Travis Robbins led every lap of the Super Stock Four race and claimed his second victory in a row. Johnny Raines ran second the entire race and continually pressured Robbins but failed to pass him for the lead and finished second. Brett Cooper finished third. Chris Holmes finished fourth. Andy Mattison finished fifth.
Randy Gilbert led every lap of the Street Stock Four race as he claimed his first victory of the season. Gilbert was pressured the first four laps of the race by Jimmy Moon and the remainder of the race by Josh Williford. Williford even made a move under Gilbert on the ninth lap but a caution appeared which put a halt to his progress. Gilbert seemed to have the field covered on the restarts where he was able to gain a couple of car lengths on the closest competitor which aided him tremendously on the final restart as he was able to pull away from Williford and hold the lead and grab the victory. Josh Williford finished second. Jimmy Moon finished third. Matt Gilbert finished fourth. Wayne Laws finished fifth.
Donnie Atkins and Chris Harvell battled the first lap of the race with Atkins grabbing the lead at the end of the lap. Atkins held the lead over Harvell until the tenth lap when Harvell made his move in turn four and pressured Atkins into turn two. Eventually Harvell bypassed Atkins and grabbed the lead position. Once out front Harvell pulled away for the victory. Donnie Atkins finished second. Terry Saunders finished third. Shane Harris finished fourth. Ronnie Hopper finished fifth.
Once again during the 2005 season Jason Clark found himself in the right spot at the right time as he claimed his third victory in a row. Blake Bentley led the majority of the race and appeared on his way to claiming an easy victory when he and Cody Cantrell made contact during a caution lap which eliminated Bentley and damaging Cantrell’s car. Both cars went to the pits which placed Clark in the lead position. Clark led the remainder of the race and claimed the victory. Cody Cantrell came from the rear and finished second. Brianna Yelton finished third. Jacob Smith finished fourth. Michael Harper finished fifth.
