CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. -- After nearly a two-month hiatus from the Stacker2 World of Outlaws Late Model series schedule, Dale McDowell and the rest of the “Dirty Dozen” will be back in action this Friday night, April 8, at the Allegany County Speedway (“The Rock”) in Cumberland, MD. A $10,000 payday is on the line for the WoO Series first ever event at the .522 mile clay oval. The event will be broadcast live on Dirtvision.com. For more information on this Friday’s event, point your web browser to www.therockspeedway.com and www.woolms.com.
The second event of the doubleheader WoO Late Model Series weekend will be held at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA. The $10,000 to win ‘Dixie Chopper 50’ presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc. is on tap for Saturday night, April 9. This is also the first appearance by the cars and stars of the Stacker2 WoO Series at the ½-mile dirt facility. The ‘Dixie Chopper 50’ will be taped by the cameras of the SPEED Channel for airing on Saturday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. The latest information on this event can be found online at www.virginiamotorspeedway.com and www.woolms.com.
Dale and the Dale McDowell Racing team currently sits ninth in the latest version of the WoO point standings after only two events. The two events were run back in February at the Volusia (FL) Speedway Park. Dale registered a seventh and a thirteenth place finish in the two events on the ½-mile, high-banked oval near Daytona Beach. The Chickamauga, Georgia driver finished fourth in last year's edition of the WoO point standings.
The DMR team waited out the weather last weekend and competed in the annual ‘James King Memorial’ at the Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS. Dale was in one of the tougher heat races of the evening and managed a third place finish, which was good enough to transfer the J&J Steel / New Vision Graphics / S&H Motorsports #17m Larry Shaw / Racetek Grand Prix into the feature event. Dale rolled off thirteenth for the 64-lap, $10,000 to win event, but was forced to retire from the race after a strong rear end vibration. He wound up finishing 24th at the pay window.
“I don’t know what really happened,” said McDowell on Tuesday. “Something in the rear end of the car started vibrating and I decided to pull off. We had the McDowell-Cook Driving School the past couple of days and I haven’t been able to get underneath the car yet to see what happened. We will find out tomorrow when we start getting ready for the World of Outlaws events this coming weekend.”
