Tuesday, April 5, 2005 Schlieper returns to WoO action after solid Mississippi weekend
by Race Author, Dan Schlieper Racing
SULLIVAN, Wis. -- The Dan Schlieper Racing team made a late week decision to travel to the Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS for the annual ‘James King Memorial’ weekend. The decision proved to be the correct one, as the weather was conducive for racing at Columbus, unlike many other places around the country. Dan drove his Miller Bros. Coal / Hawkeye Trucking #9 Rayburn / Pro Power Monte Carlo to pair of Top Ten finishes over the weekend at the “Baddest Bullring in the South.”
On Friday night, Dan finished sixth in the $2,000 to win feature event after posting the seventh quickest qualifying time. He backed that solid performance up on Saturday evening by posting a seventh place run in the 64-lap, $10,000 to win ‘James King Memorial’ feature event. Dan started eleventh on Saturday after transferring to the unsanctioned main event via his second place finish in his heat race.
“It was a pretty solid weekend for us,” stated the former ‘World 100’ and ‘North-South 100’ victor on Monday. “We have run four feature races down there this season and we have finished in the top ten on three occasions. Hopefully, we can keep running solid and have a pair of strong finishes again this weekend out east.”
After nearly a two-month hiatus from the Stacker2 World of Outlaws Late Model series schedule, Dan Schlieper and the rest of the “Dirty Dozen” will be back in action this Friday night, April 8, at the Allegany County Speedway (“The Rock”) in Cumberland, MD. A $10,000 payday is on the line for the WoO Series first event at the .522 mile clay oval. The event will be broadcast live on Dirtvision.com. The second event of the doubleheader WoO Late Model Series weekend will be held at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA. The $10,000 to win ‘Dixie Chopper 50’ presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc. is on tap for Saturday night, April 9. This is also the first appearance by the cars and stars of the Stacker2 WoO Series at the ½-mile dirt facility. The ‘Dixie Chopper 50’ will be taped by the cameras of the SPEED Channel for airing on Saturday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. The latest information on this event can be found online at www.virginiamotorspeedway.com and www.woolms.com.
Dan and the Dan Schlieper Racing team currently sits thirteenth in the latest version of the WoO point standings after only two events. The two events were run back in February at the Volusia (FL) Speedway Park. Dan registered a ninth and a nineteenth place finish in the two events on the ½-mile, high-banked oval near Daytona Beach. The Sullivan, Wisconsin driver finished seventh in last year's inaugural version of the WoO point standings.
