Friday, May 11, 2012 I-77 and Ohio Valley Continue Facility Improvements; Both AMRA Stalwarts Open Saturday May 12th
by Scott WolfeMT. ALTO, W.Va. -- Last summer "Transformers" was one of the season's hottest movies. When fans file into both I-77 Raceway Park and Ohio Valley Speedway, they will see the result of a vibrant "Transformation" and a fresh start to a new era of dirt track racing. After a pair of rainouts, both facilities open May 12 amid what forecasters predict will be warm, sunny skies. Although in the movie "Transformers" are super human, the human factor and much hard work, much heart-and-soul, and a continued investment transitioned the aging gal at Ohio Valley into a stunning model of racing excellence; and at I-77 a huge make-over has brought the operation to a glistening new height of glory.
Ironically, for a time both facilities had sat idle over different periods during the past decade. Today, both are alive and well and ready to greet both old and new fans. The American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) is proud to be a part of this historic and exciting times at both speedplants, who have been AMRA members from the onset of the organization.
"Wow, what a boost the work at I-77 and Ohio Valley will give to our local dirt track racing communities," said AMRA Director of Racing Scott Wolfe. "The AMRA is proud to be associated with these two first-class organizations. Both management teams have risen to the occasion, and have taken racing to a much higher level. The AMRA wishes to thank these tracks, as it does all member tracks, for the sacrifice and commitment to dirt track racing."
I-77 Raceway Park The team of Kenny Newhouse, Craig Givens, and Shon Parsons have put in endless hours of work expanding the pit area, adding new terraced seating, and erecting new buildings on the grounds at I-77. Additionally, tons of earth have been moved for easier access to the grounds along with a better view of the super-fast 3/8 mile oval.
Not only has the complexion of the place been taken to a new level, but the schedule has gone first-class as well. The elite schedule begins with the Ripley Race Fest which features the World Of Outlaw Late Models on Memorial Day weekend and the coveted Hillbilly 100, Carl Short's crown gem coming back to West Virginia over the Labor Day Weekend.
Details of the Ripley Race Fest Weekend include action Saturday, May 26th - Regular Racing and Sunday, May 27th a 50 Lap $10,000 to win WoO Late Model race with other classes TBA.

I-77 Welcomes back the OVSCA 410 Sprints: The Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association will make two stops at the I-77 Raceway Park in 2012. The first race for the sprints will be June 2nd.
Kenney Newhouse, Craig Givens, Shon Parsons and famed promoter Carl Short have proudly announced that the home of the 44th running of the Hillbilly One Hundred will be at I-77 Raceway Park.
