METZTOWN, Pa. -- In 2003, Mertztown, Pa., resident Josh Weller said farewell to his micro sprint driving days and turned his attention to the URC Sprints. This was not an easy decision as Weller had 112 victories to his credit before making the move to URC. At that end of that first year, Weller earned the URC Rookie of the Year title. Nicknamed "The Wild Child", one should not get the wrong impression of twenty year old Josh Weller. With two URC seasons now under his belt, Weller has demonstrated his ability to be a hard charger and a respected competitor.

Over the course of the 2004 season, Josh competed in nearly thirty events, including URC and several non-sanctioned 360 sprint shows. The highlight of his season came at his home track, the Grandview Speedway. It was Saturday night, June 12 and Josh Weller mastered the tricky "bull ring on the hill" and rallied home to an outstanding third place finish in the twenty-five lap main event. Late that season, Weller nearly pulled off a victory in one of three Sweet 16 Qualifiers that were part of the Bull Hilly 360 Sprint Nationals at Black Rock Speedway. Weller finished second to point Champion Curt Michael that night, losing the lead on the final lap as a result of some lap car interference.

Although Josh did not find the URC win circle as yet, he keeps getting closer. Along with the third place Grandview finish and the Sweet 16 runner-up at Black Rock, Josh delivered six other top ten finishes over the course of the season. In mid-August, John Weller entered the 360/358 Sprint Challenge at the Susquehanna Speedway and finished a strong second place in the championship event.

Looking at 2005, Josh "The Wild Child" Weller will have an increased focus on URC and finding the coveted victory lane. Sporting a J&J Chassis sprint car that is owned by Rick and Kim Weller, the team has strong sponsorship support from Wavetech Associates Inc., Har-Jan Mechanical, State Farm Insurance, Assured Automation, Flow Solution, Peterbilt, Simpson, Ultra Shield and Snookie Speed Shop.

Josh Weller will be in the field when the 2005 Advance Auto Parts Sprint Series gets underway on Saturday night, April 23rd at the Delaware International Speedway. The following weekend, URC has stops at the Big Diamond Raceway on Friday, April 29 followed by a visit to the New Egypt Speedway on Saturday, April 30.

The URC roster of competition is filled with heavy hitters including defending URC Champion Curt Michael, Kevin Welsh, Trevor Lewis, Dave McGough and Dave Ely just to name a few. Weller will have his hands full, but that URC victory is not far away for this young talent of URC.
