CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Joey Saldana won Friday night’s World of Outlaws 30-lap feature at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. Driving for Kasey Kahne Racing, it was Saldana’s third win at the dirt track and third of the season.

Donnie Schatz finished the feature in second, followed by Craig Dollansky. Rounding out the top five were Kraig Kinser and Cody Darrah. The race had six caution flags that slowed the field.

“We struggled with the car all night and we’ve been struggling for about a month, so tonight is really gratifying,” said Saldana. “Just a great effort by the whole Great Clips No. 9 team and this is an awesome place to win.”

Saldana held the race lead for most of the event, until lap 22 when Steve Kinser took the top spot. However, that was short-lived as Kinser suffered a flat tire and fell off the pace.

NASCAR drivers Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart were also racing in the event. Kahne finished in seventh while Stewart encountered mechanical problems and finished in 19th.

A NDRA crate-motor late model A-main was also featured and pole sitter Chris Ferguson of nearby Mt. Holly, NC won his first race at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He traded the lead with second place finisher Ron Parker.

Army Veteran Won the Coca-Cola 600

Sunday, May 27, will mark the 50th anniversary of an Army veteran who scored the biggest win of his career in the Coca-Cola 600. Nelson Stacy won the 600 back in 1962 driving a Ford for the famed Holman-Moody team that was located near the Charlotte airport.

Stacy was a three-time ARCA champion who came to NASCAR. He was more than 40 years old when he came over to race with NASCAR.

Stacy was also a former tank driver who served under the command of General George Patton.
