Miller Speedway
Friday, August 19, 2011 Results from Miller Speedway
by Butch KnouseMILLER, S.D. -- It was a cool breezy night at the Miller Speedway and the track was smooth and dry. It was Teacher Appreciation Night and the Dustin Arthur race team sponsored the candy scramble. First up was the Clark Pump N Pak UCARs. Tre Blasdell led the race early and look to be on his way to his first win, but Zach Pollock ran him down with 2 laps to go. It was Pollock's second feature win at Miller Speedway, with Brandon Hammill, Blasdell, Gary Peterman and Bill Leimbach SR rounding out the top five. Next came the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Britt Williams led the first 5 laps, but then he got caught at the top of a three wide battle coming out of turn 4. Tony Croninger took the lead. On the ninth lap, Dustin Hofer spun coming out of turn 4 and was hit head on by Chad Koth. Both cars left the track on the hook. A couple of laps later Williams and Spence Pollock tangled and dropped out of the race. Croninger led the rest of the way for his second win, followed by Lorin Johnson, Adam Brotherton, James Norden and Nathan Mack. Norden failed to go to the scale and was disqualified. The WISSOTA Street Stocks had a wild feature. On the first start, Michael Hammill spun and got nailed by Chris Serr, with Serr dropping out of the race. Tyler Lamb led the first lap, but spun coming out of turn 4 on the second time around. Lamb collected Drew Meyer, Jeff Rawstern and Kevin Meyer. Rawstern and K. Meyer were knocked out of the race. Dave Brooker led on the restart and hung on for 5 laps before going wide out of turn 2 and losing the lead to Cole Searing. Searing led the rest of the way for his first ever feature win at the Miller Speedway. While he was taking the checker, Brooker spun between turns 3 and 4, with Hammill spinning to miss him. With Brooker ruled at fault, Hammill was awarded his postition prior to the spin. The rest of the top 5 was Lamb clawing his way back to second, then Blayne Baloun, Cutter Murray and Hammill. The WISSOTA Super Stocks rounded out the night. David Carlson led the first 5 laps before Lorin Johnson got by. Dustin Arthur moved into second a couple of laps later, but suffered a failure in his rear suspension and he was done for the night. Johnson won over Carlson and Clifford Houser. The Quads were in action, with Jesse Habeck edging out his brother Matt for the second race in a row. The Quads will be back next week. Next week is Season Championship night, with the point titles to be decided. This will be the last race of the season. The race will be Friday August 26, starting time is 7:30.
