POCOLA, Okla. -- Current World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series championship point leader Billy Moyer of Batesville,AR padded his point lead Saturday winning the $10,000 first place prize in the “27th Annual Coca-Cola Summernationals Classic 50” at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola,OK. From the outside pole position “Mr. Smooth” tracked down early race leader Steve Francis to grab the point on lap 10 only to lose the position back to Francis in lapped traffic on lap 21. Moyer returned the favor on lap 23 sweeping to the outside of Francis in turn four retaking the lead on lap 23 which he would never give up for his fourth World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series victory of the season. Francis rode home in second followed by Tim McCreadie, Chub Frank and Dale McDowell. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Rick Eckert in sixth then 13th starting Dan Schlieper, 12th starting Scott Bloomquist, Shane Clanton and Clint Smith.

“We were definitely having some fun out there”, exclaimed the very happy winner and driver of the J&J Steel/Banner Valley Hauling/McCarthy’s One Hour Heating and Cooling No. 21 Billy Moyer Motorsports C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Chevrolet Monte Carlo. “On the start Steve outfired me so bad I thought he was on soft tires or something. I don’t know what he had on but he fired so good on the start. He could stay in the brown better than me and I had to run the momentum deal up on top. Once I figured out what line the car wanted to run I was able to get him on the outside. Then he got back by me in that traffic. I really didn’t know he was that close to me. Then I had to get my elbows up again and take a deep breath and go at it one more time. I just ran the car hard and Steve Norris, my crew chief, gave me a signal that I had some distance on him at the end. It seemed like my tires were going away there at the end the way the car was slipping and sliding around but I thought we’d be ok and we were.”

Francis was happy with the second place finish aboard the MOPAR Performance/Valvoline/Freeport Recycling No. 15 Steve Francis Motorsports Rocket Chassis/Stanton Racing Engine Dodge Intrepid R/T. “Billy is the guy we’re chasing in points. We had a heck of race between us. We changed positions for the lead four or five times it seemed like. Zig-zagging back and forth with each other and then he got me in traffic and then I got him back. I was able to make a run on him there at the end. I got caught. It was just one of those deal that I went one way and the lapped car went the same way I went. That allowed Billy to get some open track and there wasn’t enough laps left to get back to him. Each of us had a good car and we raced each other clean. It was a good fun race. Second ain’t bad. We’ve had a second and a first the last two races so you can’t complain about that.”

Finishing third for McCreadie was a positive for the driver of the Sweetners Plus/A&C Speedworld No. 39 Ann & Carl Myers Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo. “Yeah, I’m happy with the third. Starting sixth and going forward I thought we were gonna’ fade around mid-race But we actually came on late at the end. Maybe a few more laps who knows. These guys are so tough. We needed some consistency after my mistake last night on my own part. To get as high as second last night then a third tonight to start off this trip we’re happy. Our last seven or eight races have been good so we’ll just keep building on what we got.”

Francis got the lead from Moyer when the green flag dropped with Eckert third, Frank fourth and Josh Richards fifth at the end of the first lap. McCreadie shot into second from his sixth starting position at the end of the second lap but lost two positions when he slipped in turn two the next go round. Francis held a two car margin on Moyer when the races first caution waved on lap 8 when Raymond Merrill spun in turn four. Frank used the Delaware double-file restart to power into third as Moyer closed in on Francis.

Moyer grabbed the lead on lap 10 but Francis stayed right with him with Frank third ahead of McCreadie and Eckert trailed by McDowell, Schlieper, Clanton, Smith and Bloomquist.

McDowell powered into fifth on lap 13 but up front Moyer and Francis were putting on a show for the huge crowd on hand. Moyer entered lapped traffic on lap 19 allowing Francis to move in for the challenge. Moyer got trapped momentarily behind a slower car and Francis pounced on the opportunity grabbing the lead at lap 21. Moyer quickly moved back in on Francis powering past for the lead on lap 23. With 25 laps down the top ten running order had Moyer in front with Francis second, Frank third, McCreadie fourth and McDowell fifth trailed by Eckert, Schlieper, Clanton, Smith and Bloomquist. Before lap 26 could be completed the races last caution waved when Eric Jacobsen broke rolling to a stop in turn two.

With race at the halfway point the single-file restart was used and Moyer kept his car out in front of Francis but could only muster a four car advantage as the laps wound down. McCreadie and Frank hooked up in a classic battle with McCreadie powering past Frank off of turn two for the third spot at lap 40 with Bloomquist now up to eighth. With four laps to go Francis tried to dive underneath the car of Richards exiting turn four but Richards went to the bottom also thwarting Francis’ bid to run down Moyer.

The $45,000 purse event attracted 27 drivers to the high-banked ½ mile speedway with Clanton setting a new track record in time trials with a fast lap of 15.695 seconds. Taking heat race wins were Richards, Moyer and McCreadie while the “B” Main fell to Jack Sullivan and Francis copped the dash.

NOTES: A violent thunderstorm hit the speedway shortly after the gates had opened with torrential rain, hail, dangerous lightning and winds approaching 60 mph. The resulting storm knocked out the electricity to the speedway. After waiting for an hour the electrical service was restored and with a yeomans job by the track prep crew the show was completed though nearly 2 hours late in getting started.
