by Mike Swanger & Renegades of Dirt

MILLERSBURG, Ohio -- It was Kids Night at Hilltop Speedway but there was no kidding around on the race track on Holmes Tire night as the Renegades of Dirt was back at Hilltop for night two of the “Duel on Dirt” week end for the regions newest open wheel touring series. Threatening skies pressured a flawless track crew all evening long but mother nature played nice and allowed the race fans to grab their seats for the evenings festivities. Thirty Renegade of Dirt open wheel warriors signed in to do battle for the near standing room only crowd which impressively watched the modified portion of the show to it’s completion just before 9:30 pm. Current points leader Bobby Kitchen continued to top the talented field as he took the Two Brothers Motorsports Quick Time Award turning a lap of 15.571. Heat number one for the tour set the pace for the evening as Kitchens quickly jumped out of the gate from his fourth starting spot and took over the runner up position behind the 101 of Jesse Wisecarver. Kitchens applied the pressure but was unable to make the pass as Wisecarver grabbed the heat one win. Heat two was paced to the green by Todd Higgins and Mark Dickson who fired into turn one and rapidly grabbed the point powereing his way to the caution free heat two win. He was followed across the line by Matt Samples, Kevin Morehouse, Higgins and Brian Douglas who battled through the entire event behind the leader for the final four transfer spots. Heat number three rolled onto the speedway and was lead by last weeks Hilltop winner, Lance Elson and as the green dropped, the ‘Reaper’ Bart Hartman tunneled his way down the backstretch and into the lead from his fourth starting spot and brought the #2 of Deana Groves with him as the duo went one-two in the final qualifier. The Integra Shocks and Springs B- Main quickly sped onto the track for the final three positions into the evenings field. Travis Dickson moved into the top spot followed by Vic Hottinger and Chris Basich. As stormy weather was looming on the horizon, the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour Arizona Shirts A-Main made it’s way onto the speedway to a standing ovation from the Holmes County crowd. Wisecarver and Mark Dickson would lead the 21 car field to the green flag with Wisecarver jumping to the early advantage through turns one and two holding back multiple challenges from Dickson throughout the beginning stages of the 25 lap event. All the while, the “Bartman” picked the high line and worked the cushion with precision quickly reeling in and overtaking Dickson for second. Not Stopping there, the #75 turned his sights on the #101 of Wisecarver at the halfway mark. Wisecarver continued to paint the wall with his rear quarter panel like a work of art with Hartman right in tow until lap 20 caution for debris. The duo re-fired down the front stretch neck and neck with Wisecarver carefully working his way around the top side of the racetrack. Out of turn three and four for the final time, the crowd rose and applauded Wisecarver as he grabbed the Renegade of Dirt “Duel on Dirt” night two win as he was followed by Hartman, Mark Dickson, Morehouse and a hard charging Norm Aronhalt. In victory lane, the “Outlaw” stated “ I really love to run the high side her and we run it well and the car worked great up there. We’ve had nothing but bad luck on this tour but it feels nice to turn that around and finally get this one tonight. Plus now I have some bragging rights on Bart, him and I work together and this win with him following me will allow me to rub it in a little” joked the laughing and excited Zanesville driver.

So far this season, the pieces of the puzzle have not come together for Ashland’s Ryan Markham but they did Saturday night as he sat on the pole of the Holmes Tire Late Model feature as fellow heat winner Dave Hornikel was right beside but Markham seized the lead coming out of turn two on the opening lap and then held off several early tries from dash winner, Mark Gardiner. After a lap five caution for Hornikel, Markham would start to pull away in his Accuforce Shock Dyno, Malcuit Racing Enginesand Rocket Chassis #5m as Gardiner would be tested by fast qualifier, Charlie Duncan as Rick Bond, Eric Smitley and Wayne Maffett Jr. danced around for fourth. As the final laps clicked off, Markham had a straightawat lead over Gardiner for his first win of the season as Duncan held third with Bond taking fourth as Smitley held on to fifth.

Kyle Dickinson was looking to put his #101 back into victory circl to match Wisecarver, the pair had done it a couple of weeks ago, as he set the pace for the first four laps before points leader Kenny Daughriety Jr. wrestled the lead away for a lap before Dickinson reclaimed it on the next circuit. A broken brake caliper helped flatten the right rear tire of Dickinson’s machine on lap eight to end his chances of victory. Following a lap three flat tire, Miamisburg’s Brandon Gardner had worked his way back through the field and coming out of turn four on the last lap, the Schaeffer Oil, Rowtac and GLR #27g squeezed under Daughriety Jr. and swiped the win at the line for his fifth win of the season at Hilltop. John Wilson, Bob Chilcote and Joe Spearman rounded out the top five as Dickinson and Dustin Warner topped the heats.

Moose Workman and Terry Adkins won the heats for the Mini Stocks and after going side by side for the opening two laps of the feature, Adkins pulled away from Workman and the Killbuck driver put the points leading #49 in victory lane for the fifth time this year. Workman held off Brett Adkins for second as the feature winner of the last two weeks, Jason St. John took fourth ahead of Jerry Adkins in the caution free race.

The Putt-N-Stuff Wedges put on one of the best features in any division as each lap, the top six places would not stay the same at anytime. Although Richville’s Cody Stillion and his A-1 Towing and Sign Guys #25 would be first to the checkered flag for the fourth time this year, Konner Thomas, Destinie Bates, Hannah Rose and Josey Lillibridge all had a taste of first place at one time or another before finishing in that order. Stillion and Bates chalked up the heat wins.

Street Stocks will take center stage next Saturday night, August 11th with $1,000 headed to the winner as all regular division’s plus the Mod Lites will be back at Hilltop Speedway.
